大導演楚原作品中，唯一一部潮語戲曲電影，意義重大。本片是家傳戶曉之潮劇戲寶，故事背景發生於南宋末年，元軍攻陷臨安，宋帝南逃至廣東崖門，遭逢元軍圍困，危在旦夕，下詔張達將軍(丁敏 飾)起兵勤王。張達之義軍遭元軍水陸兩路封鎖，糧水斷絕，處境十分危險；其妻陳璧娘(蕭南英 飾)聞此驟變，立即定下奇襲元軍之計劃……

梁山好汉攻打曾头市时，晁盖不慎被史文恭毒箭射中面颊身亡。为替他报仇，军师吴用和黑旋风李逢潜入大名府，企图说服卢俊义（丹波哲郎）入伙梁山，达到“用卢制史”的目的，但潜心习武的卢俊义一直犹豫不决。不料隔墙有耳，事情被与卢俊义妻子有染的管家李固闻悉，向官府告发后卢俊义被捕，不日将以“私通梁山贼寇”罪名被斩首示众。
卢俊义的心腹浪子燕青（姜大卫）前往梁山求救，宋江得信后立刻调派林冲（岳华）、武松（狄龙）等人去劫法场，一场梁山好汉与官府的大战就此展开。
