《マッハGoGoGo》是1967年日本龙之子公司在成立后制作的第二部电视动画作品，也是其制作的第一部彩色电视动画（请留意，在日语中“5”和“号”和英文“Go”发音相同，所以原名也可为 《マッハ5号 Go》）。动画改编自公司创始人吉田龙夫的漫画底稿《パイロット·エー ス》 ，因为吉田三兄弟非常喜欢美国文化和美国生活方式，所以在制作过程中加入了大量具有西方色彩的设定，比如主角一家人的美式白领生活、偏向美式卡通的人物风格等等。整个故事围绕着少年赛车手三船刚和他所驾驶的、拥有7种不同功能的高性能赛车“マッハ号”（中文译名“马赫号”）展开。受到上世纪60年代日本动漫界流行的少年冒险式风格的影响，驰骋赛场、与众多赛车高手一比高低只是故事的一个侧面，整部动画片的情节重点是描写的是三船刚在参加世界各地的比赛时，或主动或被动地卷入了一场场阴谋、犯罪之中，以及主角是如何在家人与朋友的鼎力协助下，凭着自己的智慧与勇气、以及那辆超级赛车来化解一场场危机，粉碎一个个不同恶势力的妄想。
