其实，孩之宝想要拍摄《地产大亨》电影已经好几年时间了，最早他们还是与环球公司合作，当时邀请了莱德利·斯科特（Ridley Scott）做导演。不过那个计划后来不了了之。
《地产大亨》又名《大富翁》，是有史以来最流行的玩具和游戏之一，全球有114个国家地区的10亿多玩家，被翻译成了47种语言，跨越各种平台。《地产大亨》游戏的玩法也很简单，就是扔骰子，然后抢地盘、建高楼、收租金，中间可以使用各种惩罚或奖励的小手段，加速对手的落败。游戏的最终目标就是让自己成为富得流油的“地产大亨”。
此次孩之宝的电影版《地产大亨》，狮门公司将负责影片融资，孩之宝方面则将通过火种影业（Allspark Pictures）参与电影的制作。
