日本战前电影巨匠沟口健二(1898年5月16日～1956年8月24日)艺术创作黄金时期的几部代表作之一！
谦吉的父亲在信州开旅馆。这位少爷与家中的女佣人阿文相爱，阿文已怀有身孕。为不让丑事传开，两人一同私奔到东京，在朋友广濑的公寓里借宿。可是没过多久，广濑面露难色，两人只好搬出公寓。谦吉的父母也到东京来接儿子回家。谦吉丢下50块“分手费”，溜回老家去了。阿文在一个名叫芳太郎的琴师帮助下生下孩子。她拼命干活，挣钱维持生活。不幸芳太郎因与人发生口角被捕入狱。等他出狱后，阿文已成了咖啡馆的女招待，昔日的纯情女子已变成了荡妇。后来阿文与芳太郎共同生活，作为表演相声节目搭档，云游四方卖艺为生。旅途中，他们的儿子谦太郎降生了，可是两人仍然像浮萍一样，到处为家。碰巧他们回到阿文的故乡演出。阿文与谦吉重逢。谦吉受良心谴责，十分痛苦。他苦苦哀求阿文原谅他，希望能破镜重圆。阿文犹豫不决的时候，遇到的却是芳太郎嫌恶的目光。其实芳太郎深爱着阿文，眼看着她将要被昔日的恋人夺走，才疾言厉色，大发雷霆。阿文受不了芳太郎的无礼举动，又回到谦吉身边。可是谦吉冷漠无情的父母仍然不承认这个儿媳，并总用污言秽语刺激阿文。阿文不堪忍受，终于又回到流浪艺人中间。在漂泊不定的生活中，在简陋的舞台上，阿文与芳太郎尝到了真正的幸福。
该片是俄国作家阿尔斯泰的小说《复活》在日本的翻版。讲述一个下层女子如何直面艰难的人生，属于沟口健二的温情之作。该片是新兴电影厂的第一部作品。主演阿文的饰演者山路振富子是个经沟口健二导演苛刻培养的演技派明星，她在此片的表演成为作品最值得一提的亮点，在当代设立了山路振富子表演奖。此片是日本战前电影巨匠沟口健二艺术创作黄金时期的几部代表作之一。影片被选入日本名片200部，并曾获电影旬报十佳奖第三名。

派往唐朝的遣唐使普照与荣叡，探访愿意前往日本的高僧，遇到了唐的代表高僧鉴真。而鉴真在数度渡海失败以后，终于在双目失明的情况下来到了日本。

井上靖的同名小说被名匠熊井啓搬上了银幕。描绘把学习海外文化当作自己生命的遣唐使的留学生们之群像。许多场景在中国拍摄，是不可多得的大作。

In 1701, Lord Takuminokami Asano has a feud with Lord Kira and he tries to kill Kira in the corridors of the Shogun's palace. The Shogun sentences Lord Asano to commit suppuku and deprives the palace and lands from his clan, but does not punish Lord Kira. Lord Asano's vassals leave the land and his samurais become ronin and want to seek revenge against the dishonor of their Lord. But their leader Kuranosuke Oishi asks the Shogun to restore the Asano clan with his brother Daigaku Asano. One year later, the Shogun refuses his request and Oishi and forty-six ronin revenge their Lord.

This is the final part in the Tough Guy or Bad Reputation series that starred Shintaro Katsu as Asakichi (sort of like a early 20th century yakuza non-blind Zatoichi). I'm fairly certain the DVDr I sourced for this was taped off of Hawaiian television at some point (it has that "look") and hopefully it will be released officially on DVD somewhere and these subtitles can be added to it (the rest of the series is available on DVD in Japan, but not this one.) The video quality *obviously* leaves much to be desired, but I noticed that there was a lot of Masumura activity on KG so this might be of interest.

In 16th century Japan, peasants Genjuro and Tobei sell their earthenware pots to a group of soldiers in a nearby village, in defiance of a local sage's warning against seeking to profit from warfare. In late 19th century Tokyo, Kikunosuke Onoue, the adopted son of a legendary actor, himself an actor specializing in female roles, discovers that he is only praised for his acting due to his status as his father's heir. Devastated by this, he turns to Otoku, a servant of his family, for comfort, and they fall in love. Kikunosuke becomes determined to leave home and develop as an actor on his own merits, and Otoku faithfully follows him.
