2007年，Green Day參與了慈善大碟《Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur》，翻唱了 John Lennon的「Working Class Hero」。唱片所得收入撥捐國際特赦組織，喚醒人們對蘇丹達爾富爾衝突的注意。這首歌後來作為一首single，在2007年5月1日，於iTunes發行。在《American Idol》第6季的最後一集，Green Day作了現場演繹。此曲更獲得格萊美獎提名（Best Rock Performance By a Duo/Group w/ Vocals）。
當記者問到Green Day為什麼選擇這首歌，主唱Billie Joe Armstrong表示：「我們選擇『Working Class Hero』，因為它主題異化，強調階級和社會地位問題，讓我們產生共鳴。這是很原始的、具侵略性歌曲－－那句歌詞：『you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see』令我們認為我們必須這樣做。希望我們做的，能夠帶出真正的公義。」
