Creatures of An Hour Douban
8.3 (6 ratings) Still Corners genre: Pop
release date 2011-10-11 publisher: Sub Pop
It’s fitting that Still Corners would call their major-label debut something as elementarily ghoulish as Creatures of an Hour. The half-American, half-English duo makes seductively eerie electro-pop, with inspiration coming in equal shares from the legendary Euro-centric synthwave movement and heralded Italian horror-flick soundtracks. Like the cinephiles they are, Still Corners emphasis mood and atmosphere as the most important part of their music – with Greg Hughes likening himself to something of a director. It must be working; it got them signed to Sub Pop after all. Creatures of an Hour is set for release on Oct. 11.

Zola Jesus genre: Electronic
release date 2011-09-26 publisher: Sacred Bones Records
In the last three years, Nika Roza Danilova has gone from being an outsider, experimental, teenage noise-maker to a fully-fledged, internationally-celebrated, electronic-pop musician. It was a huge accomplishment, and, despite her age (young), her origins (mid-western, desolate), her accelerated scholastic achievements (high school and college were each completed in three years) and her diminutive physical size (4'11", 90 lbs), she has triumphed. She has emerged as a figurehead—a self-produced, self-designed, self-taught independent woman.
