《维兰德》改编自瑞典小说家亨宁·曼凯尔的系列小说。小说主角维兰德探长是个陷入中年危机的男人，与妻子分居，与父亲关系紧张，唯一的女儿也对他时有不满。同事们对他又敬又怕，敬他总能突发异想，洞察谜案玄机，怕他时不时就发通脾气。他总是饮酒、吃垃圾食品，结果患上了糖尿病。与其他公事公办的警察不同的是，维兰德对案子总是很投入感情。
