故事发生于20世纪30年代的法国。皮埃尔男爵（阿尔邦·卡雷 Alban Ceray 饰）看上去仪表堂堂，实际上是一个变态的受虐狂。妻子（碧姬·莱尔 Brigitte Lahaie 饰）无法满足皮埃尔的性癖好，于是，皮埃尔只得将自己的所有激情都倾泻在情妇的身上。常年遭受冷遇的男爵夫人性格难免有些扭曲而暴躁，她常常将自己的怒火发泄到家里的女佣爱丽丝的头上，导致爱丽丝对女主人非常的不满。
一天，爱丽丝的哥哥带着一个名叫芬奇的男人来到了男爵家，此时皮埃尔男爵不在家，豪宅里只剩下手无缚鸡之力的女人们。芬奇很快就驯服了爱丽丝，他的下一个目标就是男爵夫人。

“人的一生可以做许多事” 这是一种“对话”的方式，而此之后，肉体自然不再需要语声的鼓噪。
影片喜剧化描绘了穷困潦倒的美国作家（有着米勒的影子？！）在巴黎和室友卡尔猎艳、放浪的经历，将人心深处的欲求一览无遗崭露在众人面前，这是勇气，也是一种逼视让人回归到本原，不再意淫她人和自己。
被书写的巴黎洋溢着色情和暧昧的味道，《放荡的日子》的原作者亨利.米勒是十分了解巴黎的花街柳巷的，客居的日子，为他的文学成就做出了重要的铺垫。
整部影片的黑白画面使得人物裸体的肌理更具有美感，虽然它是直露的、狂躁的、颠覆性的，但是，正因为这个极端，将人归于了己身，质朴的、原始的、无邪的。没有那么多的概念，只有山水间的驰骋和疯癫。这是多少人想做而不敢做的啊！

女孩穿越巴黎街头的一幕有着太多的文化资讯，一个轻松的巴黎，一个诱惑的巴黎，一个可能的巴黎。
而酒吧中慵懒的爵士让人沉醉声色，手，在寻找腹地，寻找潮汐的升腾，片中竟在此刻出现了爵士乐大师BEN WEBSTER的演奏，这是一个以外的收获。

从来，性，是一把双刃剑，一方面可以摧毁男人的意志，另一方面，它又是激情的源泉，显然，亨利.米勒在巴黎穷困潦倒的日子中，那些黑夜的天使给过他灵性和激情，也为他厚积勃发打下坚实的基础。但是米勒并不是一个浮浅的二流色情文学作家，只要你认真阅读过他的散文、随笔你就能真正明白他在文学史上应当有着一席之地，在色情意味的另面，一个真正善良、人道的有着独到见解的思想者。
同样，在这部影片中我看到了《亨利和琼》受它的影响，甚至音乐（影片40分钟左右）也受到了《在克里奇色情的日子里》的影响，至少，他们反映的巴黎都是“肉艳的巴黎”，许多场景似曾相识。

李翰祥作品，许冠文、白小曼、胡锦、张冲主演，《声色犬马》包括“声"、“色"和“犬马"（赌）三段故事，由许冠文一人分饰三角，以麻将馆中的三姑六婆说是非来贯串全篇。鬼马狂想经典搞笑登场。名流人物杰美芳行为怪诞，乱写影评、乱派评马贴士，却躲不起胡锦的挑逗，惨被戏弄。名医吴新紧平素道貌 岸然，一副正人君子样，其实他甚喜拈花惹草，结果被病人余娟娟设局，伙同大狗熊、大胡子勒索，吴妻原来 也背后参与其事，吴新坚偷香的代价，换来人财两空。有江郎者，在澳门赌场输掉老大的四万余元，怕被人追 杀，唯有一走了之，黔驴技穷中，才明白自己名符其实是「江郎才尽」。

《声色犬马》是风月大导李翰祥代表作之一 《声色犬马》与其前作《风流韵事》、《一乐也》等一样，是“软件式"的风流趣剧。许冠文一人分饰三个角色演活大千世界、光怪陆离的人物角色，乐而不淫、却有警世意味。整部片子的结构略 显松散，好在本片细节丰富，每段小故事都有声有色，充满趣味性，看起来不会有沉闷之感。值得一提的是本片女主角白小曼，她本来是李翰祥发掘的新星，但影片还未及上映，她便自杀丧生，死时年仅十八岁，处女作亦变成最后遗作。
