这是一部关于打口碟的纪录短片。由于规模生产带来的低成本效益，西方唱片公司一般选择大量生产发行唱片。但除了主流歌手外，很多歌手的唱片不能被很好的消化。这些滞销的磁带或CD， 在到达一定的上架时间后，就必须下架，如果商品过期一样。唱片公司如果回收这些下架的磁带或CD，一方面回收费用会很高，并且还需要额外的仓库是存储，而再销售的机会，几乎微乎其乎。于是唱片公司选择给这些磁带和CD做打口处理，意为音像垃圾，然后把他们以塑料垃圾的身份出口到中国。
在上世纪90年代，中国对外国音乐的进口有严格限制。加上经济落后，给打口碟孕育了重生的机会，重新履行传递音乐的使命。一些商人发现，这些打了口子的碟片，被许多喜爱音乐视为至宝，于是越来越多的人开始在一船船的碟片中淘金，打口碟的进口地广东潮阳，也被喻为“中国摇滚音乐的函授学校”。毫不夸张的说，如今成名的许多音乐人和制作人，最初的西方音乐灵感，大多数来源于打口碟。
在打口碟在中国已成为产业链的同时，西方音乐世界却对此几乎一无所知。British Phonographic Instituion和Association of Independent Music 每年还会投入大量人力物力研究如何打入中国音乐市场，殊不知他们的音乐早已通过打口碟流传了几十年。许多中国青年追捧的偏门音乐人，或许在西方一点名声都没有。
该纪录短片走访了中国著名乐评人郝舫，音乐人王悦、伊莉娜，中国音乐学院关常新教授，普通打口碟收藏者丁念慈，唱片店老板王卓辉等。通过展示他们与打口碟结缘的故事，回顾这一段虽然地下，但是举足轻重的音乐狂欢。

第一集 有史以来最讽刺、下流、猥琐、无礼的历史
本片从18世纪早期的乔治王朝统治时期入手，给大家展示全国性的公开粗俗，简直让人震惊！贺加斯，吉尔雷，罗兰生，克鲁克香克笔下的绘画，以及约翰·盖伊和亨利·菲尔丁笔下光怪陆离的戏剧世界会让我们大开眼界。歌手露西·斯吉平会带我们一览乔治王朝粗俗下流情歌的盛况。我们还会从蒲伯，斯威夫特，拜伦以及斯特恩入手，研究一下那个时代脏话的文学起源。
第二集 荤段子与艳照

斯图亚特（Stuart）王朝两位君主的野心是使曾经的宿敌合而为一并走向现代不列颠的决定性力量。苏格兰玛丽女王还只是阴谋夺取伊丽莎白一世的王权，她的儿子詹姆士则有着更为激进的梦想。

The program included interviews with noted historians and academics, including Paul Kennedy, who wrote the influential book "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers", and Joseph Stiglitz, who won a Nobel Prize in Economics. Political leaders, such as former French president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir bin Mohamad, were also interviewed."

It has been dubbed in English and shown on History Channel under the title "Rising of Great Powers".
