Newcastle is much like any other city in the country, with one key difference when it comes to waste. Since landfill tax was introduced the desire to find alternatives to throwing rubbish in a hole in the ground has become the holy grail of the waste industry. And this goes far beyond simply encouraging residents to use their recycling bins.
All domestic rubbish in Newcastle is taken to the Byker Waste Processing Plant, in the outskirts of the city. Behind its doors, the team work to get as much use out of the rubbish as they can. In an enormous operation using giant sieves called trommels, moving belts and huge magnets, the rubbish is sorted and a use is found for 80% of all the waste it receives. Food waste is turned into compost, metals are removed and most of what’s left is wrapped in bails and turned into refuse derived fuel, which can be used to generate electricity in power stations. The RDF from Byker is shipped across the North Sea to Sweden.
The lesson we learn from looking closely at our waste is that there is more value in what we throw away than we could ever imagine. From places like Byker Waste Processing Plant, to people struggling to make ends meet by salvaging what they can from skips, never has the idea that one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure been so true.

火车车厢,本就是个狭小的空间,在这里,人与人之间的关系是很容易就能被感知,我想这应该是一个高度浓缩的关系矛盾集合体,尽管在这里还有着特殊的背景,人们知道这只是短暂的相处,因此彼此之间相对会表现得比平时不一样的状态.但在着部电影里，三位导演把各个角色间的性格特点彻底的分离,鲜活地表现了出来.那位幻想着爱的独身的老教授,不可理喻的将军遗孀和陪送她的年轻人,三个凯而特人的球迷,阿拉伯难民家庭等等，这些人都在欧洲这个同样的社会背景下,很自然地彼此联系在一起,其实我也在想,会不会是有关欧洲这样一个他们自认为是一体的背景下，人们之间的情感关系.当然,我更愿意抛弃这样一个背景,而把这些故事放在一个广泛的人类背景下,对这种人与人之间相互关系的表现.但是它同时揭示的社会问题也是不能忽视的，所以从情感上,我更愿意分开来看.
绵长的铁轨,人们各自怀着各自的心思.
老教授的深情和善良,在影片一开始的时候就把我打动.一封信,写来写去,却无终的信,在最后时刻,延伸到给了车厢连接处一位难民妇女怀里婴儿所需的一杯牛奶,在这种延伸中,老教授的迟疑,和众人的表情还有那些士兵的反应,这些都拿捏得非常精彩,我当时的感觉真的就是入了戏,自己仿似在故事中.真是奇妙.
"和蔼友善的女士,虽然我们只是在一起等了几分钟的火车,说了几句话而已,但是已经足够让我发现,自己习惯了有你陪伴.实际上当火车即将离去的时候,我开始感到那种离开亲近的人们时所感受到的空虚.

还是那个乘务员,车将开往罗马,三个凯尔特人的球迷在火车上遇到了难民的弟弟.其实这三个一开场就很显眼,喧闹浮躁,没有什么志向,在超市工作，带了满袋的三明治,好不容易凑足钱买的车票和门票,只是想去罗马看自己球队的比赛.和难民弟弟聊起足球,给他看了门票,还给了他一个三明治,不想,车票却被他偷了.折腾了一会,总算确认是难民弟弟偷了票,可是又遇上了问题,三个人的心软无法应对难民的哭诉,最后又给了他们一张票.这样他们又面临被罚款而钱远远不够的困境,最后的结局也是让人无法想象到的,通过对方球迷的球迷的帮助逃脱,在这里,又和一向被讨论的球迷的问题挂上了钩,球迷其实是一起的,即使支持不同的球队,但是却有着一样的梦想-足球.
在这里,这个世界没有了分别,没有了差别,也没有了分辨的意义.
