北岛真夜（安达拓实 饰）是一个平凡的少女，唯一和最大的爱好就是表演，她拥有着过人的表演天赋，剧本和台词几乎过目不忘。一次偶然中，女明星月影千草（野际阳子 饰）发现了真夜的这一天赋，如获至宝的她邀请真夜加入她旗下的“月影剧团”，真夜的漫漫星途就此拉开序幕。
剧团的生活充满了明争暗斗，可即便如此，初来乍到的真夜依然凭借着自己对于表演的热爱和实力获得了同伴们的认可，其中，被誉为行业内天才的姬川亚弓（松本惠 饰）更是将真夜当做了自己最大的对手。与此同时，千草的竞争对手速水真澄（田边诚一 饰）亦被真夜的独特气质所吸引。

押井守担任监督的这部新动画作品叫《Sand Whale and Me》（沙鲸与我），作品采用动画真人混合 CG 风格制作。动画发生在未来世界，一个女伞兵被困在沙漠中，只带了一点点水和食物求生的故事，这部动画 25 分钟由 5 部短片内容构成。动画监督押井守，CG 监督佐藤敦纪，音乐川井宪次，动画制作 Production I.G。

Tamaki is crawling along the sidewalk on crutches at a snail's pace, and stumbles into the young audiotypist after apparently having trouble with an ill-fitting shoe over her cast. After helping her back to her feet, Kazuko follows Tamaki back to her apartment, the two of them barely exchanging words. Once in Tamaki's room, Kazuko is dispatched on an errand to fetch some beer... Their game begins..
