故事发生在1874年的奥地利温泉疗养胜地巴德伊舍尔。由于法尔克博士曾经被埃森斯坦伯爵弄成蝙蝠模样戏耍过，因此他与伯爵夫人罗萨琳德串通一气准备报复。当埃森斯坦因犯法而要入狱前，法克尔博士邀他先去参加一场由奥洛夫斯基王子举办的舞会。在那儿，家中女佣阿黛拉化身为明星前来，而其妻罗萨琳德也化妆参与盛会，不知情的埃森斯坦还向自己妻子百般调情。第二天，大伙又凑巧全在监狱出现，罗萨琳德当着大家的面前斥责丈夫花心，尴尬的埃森斯坦也只好在法尔克的解围下，皆大欢喜的收场。
