Zatoichi is a blind massage therapist and swordsman who finds out that something troubling is taking place on the outskirts of town. After discovering who the guilty parties are -- an accomplished Chinese martial artist named Wang Kang and his youthful attendant -- Zatoichi finds them and discovers that the pair's mixed up with a dangerous bunch of terrorist samurai who murdered the boy's parents. Now, Zatoichi must step in to save the day.

有名な高田の馬場の決闘、伯父の助太刀に向う中村安兵衛とすれ違った旗本丹下典膳は安兵衛の襷がほどけているのに気づき、注意しようと決闘の場に向う。しかし、相手が同門の知心流の武士であることを知り、その場を立ち去った。だが、後日同士を見捨てたことをとがめられた典膳は知心流を破門される。一方決闘で名を上げた安兵衛はあちこちから任官の誘いがあるが、安兵衛の想いは上杉家の娘千春にあった…
「忠臣蔵」のサイドストーリーとして書かれた五味康祐の小説の映画化。有名な高田の馬場の決闘と四十七士の討ち入りのあいだの中村安兵衛を描くという面白い作品。同時に徹底的にメロドラマでもあり、時代劇の面白さをすべて詰め込んだという感じ。

The blind masseuse is targeted by the leader of a powerful yakuza group while also fending off a jealous husband bent on revenge. Zatoichi tours Edo's underground via a rousing onsen fight scene, gambling houses and the gender-bending character of Umeji, before a final, flame-filled conflagration.

Itinerant masseur and master swordsman, the blind Zatoichi, is near the village of his teacher, Hikonoichi, so he decides to visit. He learns of Hikonoichi's recent robbery and murder and the imprisonment of his virginal daughter, Osayo, in a brothel. Through friendship with Denroku, a local dice thrower and devoted father, Ichi uncovers an unholy alliance between the governor and the area strongman: among their scams is falsifying tax records to put farmers in debt, then forcing their daughters into prostitution at the boss's brothel. With help from Denroku's daughter, Otsuru, Ichi comforts Osayo until he can provoke showdowns with the villains and their henchmen.

Ichi is staying at an inn when a woman dies. Her dying wish is that Ichi take her son to his father, an artist living in a nearby town. After arriving in the town, Ichi finds out that the father has been forced by a local boss to create illegal pornography to pay off his gambling debts. Ichi makes it his mission to save the man and reunite the family, even though it brings him into conflict with a samurai he sort of befriended on his way to the town.

盲剑客座头市来到一座被黑帮赌场控制的小镇，他遇到了两名艺伎，她们的父母被残忍杀害，她们决定进行复仇，在小镇上掀起一场风波。座头市答应帮助她们，为正义而奋战。服部源之助也是一名高强的剑客，一直被他的痛苦过去所折磨，他也怀着刺杀任务来到小镇。小镇陷入暴雨将至的紧张气氛中……

板見半蔵。江戸北町奉行所同心。その頭の切れ味と、鋭い性格から人呼んで“カミソリ半蔵"と呼ばれている。ある日、島破りがあり、無宿人狩りが行われた。半蔵はその時捕えた三次から意外なことを聞き出した。去年捕えられ、島送りにされた重罪人の人斬り屋・三途の竿兵衛が江戸にいるというのである。半蔵の捜査が始まった。やがて、部下の鬼火とまむしの調べで、竿兵衛の情婦お美乃と半蔵の上役大西孫兵衛の妾が同一人物であると判明した。北町奉行所の筆頭与力が流刑人の女を妾にしている。その裏に何かあるとにらんだ半蔵は、お美乃を罠にかけ捕える。そして、快楽も度を越せば苦痛にという半蔵特意の、彼の男自身を駆使した“座禅ころがし"でお美乃を責めたて全てを白状させた。お美乃を大西に渡し、引き換えに竿兵衛を助けるというのである。さらにその取り引きの背後には大奥医師の稲村玄伯が居り、例え、この一件が露見しても、大奥にまでは探索の手が届かないことを、あらかじめ承知のことらしい。半蔵は敢然と大西と大奥に対しての挑戦を開始。まず、お美乃を救出に来た竿兵衛を斬り、大西の秘密を握るお美乃を保護することにより、大西の権力を押さえることに成功。そして大奥。治外法権の大奥にも、大奥医師の娘、おゆらを自分の情婦に仕立て、出入り自由の特権を得て行く。やがて、同心でも手のつけられない悪制度の治外法権を次々と自分の猟場にしていくのだった。

After accidentally causing the death of an old lady, Zatoichi tries to do right by buying the lady’s daughter’s freedom from a brothel - but this causes more problems than solves them.

Returning to the village where a year before he had killed Hirate, a much-admired opponent, Zatoichi encounters another swordsman and former rival in love.

The story is about an unnamed detective, hired by a beautiful, alcoholic woman, to find clues related to the disappearance of her husband. In the process, the detective is given a map (a ruined one), supposedly to help him, but which turns out in the end to be more like a metaphor of the guidelines one should have in life. The impossibility of finding relevant clues to help him solve the mystery leads the main character to an existential crisis, which builds slowly from inside and finally puts him in the position of identifying himself with the man he was supposed to find.
The Man Without a Map (燃えつきた地図 Moetsukita chizu) is a 1968 Japanese film directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara and starring Shintaro Katsu. The screenplay was adapted by Kōbō Abe from his novel The Ruined Map. This was the fourth and final film collaboration between Teshigahara and Abe.

江戸城の御金蔵に面したお堀端に毎夜出没する若い女の幽霊を捕えた北町奉行所隠密廻り同心“かみそり半蔵"こと板見半蔵は、堀の中から、吹きたての小判をつめた大量の竹槍を発見した。半蔵は、何者かが御金蔵から盗み出し、竹槍につめて堀の中に投げ入れた小判の見張り役として、幽霊を仕立てたに違いないとにらんだ。ある日、半蔵は幼な友達の武井兵助に出会った。兵助は、家宝の槍の献上を拒んだために、老中・堀田備中守から役をもらえず貧乏暮しをしている。その兵助が盲目の高利貸石山検校から借りた、という小判を見て、半蔵は驚いた。これも吹きたての小判だったのである。検校は高利貸しだけではなく、おえら方の奥方に琴を教えたり、彼女たちを月に三度梅屋敷に呼んで、賑やかに遊んでいる、という。早速梅屋敷に忍び込んだ半蔵は、座頭を相手に乱交している奥方たちを目撃した。一方、借金を返済できなかった兵助は、検校の用心棒戸波伴作に殺され、家宝の槍を持ち去られてしまった。半蔵は、堀田の奥方を鍛えあげた金看板のイボマラで口封じをし、堀田邸に忍びこみ、堀田と検校の悪事をつきとめた。そして、半蔵は梅屋敷に乗り込み、検校の御用金盗み出しを暴露し、金貸しの証文を全て焼き捨てさせたのだった。また、半蔵は西洋学問を学び謀叛人とされた杉野玄庵という医者をかくまっているのだが、梅屋敷の銅瓦を頂戴し、玄庵にその銅で大砲をつくらせた。そして、その大砲を堀田の行列に容赦なくブッ放すと、ついに堀田は西洋文明を取り入れることを約束した。兵助の墓まいりをする半蔵。そこに戸波伴作が現われ、半蔵に斬りかかった。体をかわした半蔵は、堀田から取り戻した兵助の槍で、戸波の胸に深々と突き刺した。

Zatoichi makes friends with a dangerous chess player, while fending off angry yakuza and bloodthirsty relatives out for revenge, and trying to save a sick child. Meanwhile, his luck with dice is turning.

Zatoichi comes upon a dying man who asks him to give a bag of money to "Taichi". Zatoichi has no idea who this is but when he comes upon a small town harassed by gangsters, he finds that "Taichi" was the man's young son. Along his travels he also met a blind monk who makes Zatoichi question his murderous lifestyle. In trying to help the town, Zatoichi kills some gangsters and becomes a hero to the boy. He must make a choice of whether to use non-violence and set a good example, or violence and set the boy on the wrong path in life.

Blind swordsman Zatoichi, jailed briefly, is implored by another prisoner to aid him in proving his innocence of a crime for which he is sentenced to death. Zatoichi is reluctant to get involved, because he knows how often such involvement has led to trouble in the past. But events conspire to thrust him repeatedly into involvement, and gradually he comes to believe in the man's innocence and determines to free him.
