A film in three chapters: Godard plays the director in the main chapter, rushing to catch a plane to pass the negatives to his producer within 24 hours; an electronic duo keeps rehearsing for their roadshow; a clumsy fat man gets involved in an incident, and is arrested after being watched by a mysterious woman. Seemingly unrelated events, Godard is discussing the importance of film producer and artistic creativity. Godard is making the statement that if a producer or anyone interferes with creativity, it is better for the artist to go one's own way. A showpiece of how Godard uses the film media as his critical essay.

His fiancée wants to kill him, the film studios don't want to give him any more work and, as King Kong for a promotion in a supermarket, he winds up destroying some display shelves. The only role he plays well is pretending not to be able to hear, speak and walk in order to get money from the government. Then along comes the "beautiful" actor called Bruno Ferrari. Supposedly a fearless stuntman, Ferrari turns out to be afraid of heights once his feet leave the ground. So a stuntman is needed to prevent a scandal. And who is the man who looks most (or exactly) like Bruno? You guessed it, good-for-nothing Mike...

Barbara marries Julien a charming and sexy man. Barbara's old flame Paul is highly suspicious of Julien.
