Однажды охранница, руководствуясь какими‑то новыми правилами и не пускавшая в очередной раз кого‑то на мою репетицию, возмущённо сказала: „А почему вы так со мной разговариваете?“ Я сказал: „Я вас могу даже убить“. Она спросила удивлённо: „Почему?“ Я сказал: „Потому что это театр, а вы мне мешаете делать то, что я люблю“.
Глупейшая и беспомощная ситуация.
Мы делаем спектакль — сказку, театральную сказку. Сюжет осложняется тем, что иногда ты сам не знаешь, чего ты хочешь и даже что и кого ты любишь. А завтра у тебя премьера Моцарта. И тогда можно убить кого‑то не того.
В этой сказке будет и металлургический завод в Кривом Роге, и коктебельские камушки, и попытка объяснить, чем отличаются свои художественные штампы от своих же художественных приёмов, и воздушный шарик, который должен лежать в левом кармане пиджака как талисман — на удачу. Настоящий снег, настоящая земля и настоящее пение.
А кончится всё хорошо, хотя вначале ничто не будет этого предвещать.
Ну, как и положено в сказке.

On the stage: seven men with the faces of silent film actors: cigars, coats and tails, nostalgic decadence, with the sounds of a waltz in the background… not to mention vivacious young ladies, standing motionless like crippled puppets in cardboard boxes. The heroes are like photographic prints from the beginning of the 20th century – a sort of composite image of a Bunin character, gripped by an insane and pernicious passion for some woman, who inevitably becomes this feeling’s victim.

Director Dmitry Krymov turns to Bunin's collection of stories, “Dark Alleys,” or, more exactly, to the succession of memories they contain – tragic, dark, disgraceful, even cruel, but all the same – sickly-sweet. The soulful sadness of bygone love: the whole collection is infused with this feeling, written by Bunin at a ripe old age, far from his motherland. And as per the laws of poetry, the show is of course deeply penetrated by this feeling, but in counterpoint Dmitry Krymov proposes a mature new look at the canonical work, free of false sentimentality.

Для Дмитрия Крымова текст Уайлдера – отправная точка для полета фантазии и погружения в собственное прошлое. Взаимоотношение человека с прошлым – тема, которая волнует художника в последние годы. На пьесу американского драматурга накладываются личные воспоминания Крымова, его биография, события из жизни его семьи. Артисты «Школы современной пьесы» играют реальных людей – Анатолия Эфроса, Наталью Крымову, завлита театра на Бронной Нонну Скегину, самого Дмитрия Крымова.

Depicting the oppression of Soviet Jews followed by the censorship of Shostakovich under Stalin, Opus No 7 sees larger-than-life puppets, duelling pianos, living walls and blizzards of newsprint form part of a genre-defying double bill.

Big Trip marks the full American debut of Dmitry Krymov’s singular theatrical vision. In two interconnected parts, Big Trip explores both American and Russian cultures, past and present, through unique theatrical adaptations of some of their most iconic writers: Hemingway, Pushkin, and O’Neill.

Utilizing the third act motifs of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters as a jumping off point, Dmitry Krymov’s Fragment focuses in on Olga, the eldest of the three sisters. Like many of Chekhov’s heroes who attempt to overcome fate, she is doomed to fail, but it is in the attempt itself that she becomes so close and dear to us. Ultimately, we empathize with and love this very recognizable person who can’t adequately protect herself, her love, and her home.

Premiered in Riga in 2024, "Diary of Madmen" is an independent production by visionary director Dmitry Krymov – an ode to theater as both escape and salvation from a collapsing world. In this deeply personal work, two acclaimed actors, Chulpan Khamatova and Maksim Sukhanov, portray artists confronting the loss of their familiar lives and the meaning of their craft. Even as madness and despair close in, Krymov insists on the power of resistance, of laughter and love, and of art as the last refuge of inner freedom.

Inspired by the tales of J.M. Barrie, Dmitry Krymov's "Peter Pan. Syndrome" is about art and the artist – the creator who, even when trapped in a dead end, when despair tightens around the throat and the urge to abandon everything feels unbearable, still returns to creation. Overcoming pain, he, like Peter Pan, cannot grow up from his passion for art; he continues to make miracles because he knows no other way to live. You want to let him go, to say, "Rest!" – but he is so radiant, his miracles so beautiful, and his heart so full of love that the audience, weeping, cannot bring themselves to release him.
