Wenders' first full-length film was produced as his graduation project at the Academy of Film and Television in Munich ("Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München") which he attended from 1967 to 1970. Shot in 16 mm black and white by subsequent long-time Wenders collaborator Robby Müller, the movie exhibited many of Wenders' later trademark themes of aimless searching, running from invisible demons, and persistent wandering toward an indeterminate goal. In this case the journey is that of protagonist Hans (Zischler) after he is released from prison. Searching through seedy West German streets and bars, he finally winds up visiting an old friend in Berlin.

The fate of Nora, a supermarket cashier who lives happily with her boyfriend Aron, and that of Natan, a loving father who works as a night watchman, cross paths when misfortune turns their lives upside down.

Eyal, an Israeli Mossad agent, is given the mission to track down and kill the very old Alfred Himmelman, an ex-Nazi officer, who might still be alive. Pretending to be a tourist guide, he befriends his grandson Axel, in Israel to visit his sister Pia. The two men set out on a tour of the country, during which Axel challenges Eyal's values.

As a result of being 'brought up' by an irresponsible mother and by an absent father, she can now find her balance only in a methodical life and a regular, well-defined job. For instance in being the most perfectionist vehicle crash test worker ever. So imagine her dismay when she learns that her factory is going to be relocated - in India. Losing such a structuring job is simply inconceivable. So much so that when Aglaé is offered to hold the same position but thousands of miles away from home, with pay cut and without the least social benefits, she - accepts. A few days later, Aglaé hits the road in an old Citroën Visa, accompanied by her two friends and co-workers Liette and Marcelle who, for reasons of their own, have decided to follow her example.

"Actually, Schauplätze didn’t get lost completely. Two shot were left, and they’re now the first two shots in Same Player Shoots Again. In a way, they’re a prelude to it – or rather its antecedents. They come before the credit title. And the rest of the film, after the title, is just one three-minute shot that’s repeated five times. It was shot in black-and-white and its repeated five times, but always in a slightly different color. I mean its not really colored, just a little bit blue and a little bit red and a little bit green along the street."
"At first, you only see his feet. He’s wearing a long coat, and later you can see up to his waist. He has a machine-gun in one hand and he begins walking fast, then he slowly begins to run and he stumbles more and more, as if he were hurt or wounded. He doesn’t actually fall. You just see him running. You see the coat and the machine-gun and his feet. And in the end, the film starts again from the beginning. Its somewhat different from those loop films that were in vogue at the time – those were without an end and you could watch them indefinitely. Whereas in Sam Player Shoots Again, there was a development and there was a new beginning each time."
"For me, it had a lot to do with pinball machines – I mean a game where you have five balls (you used to have five balls, now you only get three). At the time, you had five balls and five games, and that’s a little bit the structure of Same Player Shoots Again. Visually, its as if you had five balls. In fact, that was the idea, to edit it this way. It had some music, too, music I found on an old 78 record that was called Mood Music ad it sounded like music from an unknown Hitchcock film. I used two small pieces of it – one of 10, and one of 15 seconds, one in the beginning of the shot and one at the end – that is to say – the two pieces of music were repeated as well."

Itinerant projection-equipment repairman Bruno Winter and depressed hitchhiker Robert Lander - a doctor who has just been through a break-up with his wife and a half-hearted suicide attempt - travel along the Western side of the East-German border in a repair truck, visiting worn-out movie theaters, learning to communicate across their differences.

During the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, eleven Israeli athletes are taken hostage and murdered by a Palestinian terrorist group known as Black September. In retaliation, the Israeli government recruits a group of Mossad agents to track down and execute those responsible for the attack.

A veteran actress comes face-to-face with an uncomfortable reflection of herself when she agrees to take part in a revival of the play that launched her career 20 years earlier.

After the death of her husband, the mother of Julie, Jack, Sue and Tom begins to suffer from a mysterious illness. Aware that she is going to have to go into hospital she opens a bank account for the children, so that they can be financially self-sufficient and will be able to avoid being taken into care by the authorities. Unfortunately she also dies and Julie and Jack (the older, teenage children) decide to hide her body in the basement so that they can have free reign of their household. Soon Tom has taken to dressing as a girl whilst Sue has become increasingly reticent, confiding only to her diary, meanwhile Jack and Julie sense an attraction developing for each other. However Julie's new beau, Derek, threatens to unearth the many dark secrets within this family as he becomes increasingly suspicious of Jack.
