Let's hope he's not writing your name in his book! 1/4

With a feathered quill in hand, Death pauses to glance up while inscribing a name in his ancient tome. His robes are faded, and beneath the folds of his hood, his skull is bleached and missing a single tooth. Blank orbitals stare flat black at the audience. His book, along with a fat rat, rests on splintered boards; the perspective lines create an illusion of a tabletop in front of him that really isn't there. Orange ground beneath the boards blends smoothly into the barren landscape of the background. His wooden throne—decorated with a goat head set within an inverted pentagram trimmed in gold—is decaying with holes chewed through it. Many eyes, rendered white on black, can be seen peeking out of burrows atop the throne. Two uneven crescent moons hang tinted yellow against the orange sky.

Do you hate AI, love discovering new indie authors, and love Fantasy stories that get DARK?

Then I suggest that you preorder Once Upon A Fairytale, an anthology that has all that (and you get to prove the power of Mastodon as THE place for us indies)!

Please share, so others too can find a good read for the fall season. <3

An adverticement picture made by me (hiisikoloart/Mara Reboi) for book named: Once Upon a Fairytale: A collection of original fairytales. Background is a bed of moss (a hint which will be clear if you read my story in the book) lit by golden specks of light. The texts around the eBook cover shown in a phone says, "A Collection of Original Fairytales - PREORDER NOW! Dark Fantasy Stories from Human Authors, NO AI, Only 99 cents." The cover is photoedited (NO AI) by artist: D'arte Oriel, and shows a dark forest, thorns around the edges of the cover, and a thorny, red rose at the middle. Golden filigrees frame the cover among smaller roses, and magic particles. The subtitle "a collection of original fairytales" reads at the top" while the main title reads at the bottom on bold, golden font "Once Upon a Fairytale". Note: By buying this book you support human work - each story was written by a human author, edited by human(s), formatted by human(s), and the cover was also made by a human. All authors and the cover artist (who is not me) are against use of AI in any part of the creative work.

Blurb is on the paper next to the cover and it reads, "Once Upon A Fairytale could quickly become your worst nightmare... A prince imprisoned in a tower, a stolen child, a young woman determined to walk her own path, a mysterious hunter stalking the forest, a jealous enchantress, two girls torn apart by fate - these are not the fairytales you grew up with. Venture into a world of original fairytales, where magic causes chaos, villains threaten entire kingdoms and the hero is in for the fight of their life. Will they prevail? Or is their future looking grim?" The cover is of a red, magic rose on a dark forest background, and golden filigree frame around the photomanipulated art. NO AI was used in its creation.
