squeezing in one last decembird with this loquacious lad, gary nubird. the starling is rarer & rarer in scotland; so, sadly, i've never had the distinct honour of hearing one bust out a classic electro riff. i'll bet they do it all the time, though, with their little customised roland tr-808s.

It's getting to be that time of year to draw pumkpkins and spooky stuff (just kidding. ALL year is the time to draw spooky stuff :P)

This is the result of my first attempt at a new technique i came up with for making layered laser-cut #art

It involves hand-drawing each layer on paper, with a light box underneath so you can see each previous layer, and get a good idea of what it's going to look like when assembled. Then scanning it using an old sk00l scanner, and then vectorize the bitmap. Once laser-cut, hand-paint with acrylics like it's a canvas. :)

A painting of three glass goblets of varying heights and widths. The three goblets are arranged a somewhat untidy row, with the shortest goblet in the middle and slight out of line with the taller goblets flanking it on either side. The two goblets closest to us are filled with water, with the one furthest away (also the tallest one) being left empty. The goblets are on a white tabletop in front of a window, that has been left open to allow the natural sunlight to come in, as well as show us the view of some sand dunes, with the beach just beyond.

Like many Inuit artists, Kenojuak Ashevak has spent most of her life living on the land in a manner not unlike that of her ancestors. She was born at the south Baffin Island camp of Ikirisaq, and grew up travelling from camp to camp on south Buffin and in Canada’s Eastern Arctic.

Kenojuak Ashevak is internationally renowned for her tremendous accomplishments and contributions to Inuit art. Her simple compositions, bold lines and strong colours define the classic drawing Cape Dorset style. Kenojuak focuses on the process and aesthetics of drawing more than on the specifics of Inuit life and her memories. Her work is characterized by a central element (often an animal, bird, fish or human) positioned on the paper without the context of landscape or narrative devices.
