Rated Monster Kids: How Pokémon Taught a Generation to Catch Them All 8/10

A great overview from the top-up marketing campaigns that I experienced (in part) as a kid, not just about Pokémon, but also its competitors at the time. Pokémon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh! are the main focus, though others such as Mon Colle Knights and Medabots get more than passing mention.

I enjoyed all that's in it, since it tied together a lot of nostalgic elements from my childhood. I do wish the writer had gone into more detail about many of specific trends and marketing campaigns covered. As someone who's not from America, there's of course an international element missing to truly encompass my own experiences. The book, for example, talks about the big initial Pokémon hype petering out. That makes me wonder whether our own flippos gave it a longer lease on life here.

I enjoyed this story but damn it was very confusing trying to work out if the details around the GrayCris assassination attempt also on Preservation Station. <br/><br/>Furthermore this is the sixth book but happens between Exit Strategy (four) and Network Effect (five). I’m definitely going to need to relisten all three audio books in chronological order order.<br/><br/>Really enjoying the switch to detective story style and as always I enjoy seeing Murderbot/Sec Unit grow.
