Rated The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line 8/10
This likely would have been a solid three-star audiobook for me: a nice page-turner with all the loops and misdirections one can expect from a Veronica Mars story. What pushed it to four stars was Kristen Bell's narration. It makes sense that she's the best person to voice Veronica herself, but there are also moments where her portrayals of Mac and Wallace are eerily recognizable from the show. While I really (REALLY) miss Stephen Briggs' character work, I love that Bill Nighy is so present as Death in this one, along with the main narration and other characters by Sian Clifford.<br/><br/>The novel itself is fun as usual for Pratchett and there are plenty of new, memorable characters here, but Nighy's Hooo, hooo, hooooos are what made me laugh frequently.<br/><br/>Susan, the Death of Rats (squeak), and Quoth the raven were all great additions to spend time with as well.<br/><br/>Full review: https://puf.io/books/hogfather---terry-pratchett/<br/><br/>All my reviews: https://puf.io/books/

liked that this book picks up an annoying loose thread from the TV show: whatever happened to Meg Manning's little sister Grace?<br/><br/>Unfortunately the book's main plot didn't grip me very much, and Veronica herself is all over the place - in an annoying way. Rated Tooth and Nail: A Steampunk Sleeping Beauty 6/10
Fast-paced YA steampunk pulp that mixes classic fairy tales with vampires, gargoyles, and other traditional lore. Holy smoke, what a lot of pages!<br/><br/>An incredibly detailed deep dive into the early days of Microsoft Office development and Windows Visa through 8. If you're into this sort of information, Steven provides a lot of information that you've probably never read before. I stumbled upon Bregman’s writing through Humankind, which I really liked for its optimistic view of history and then-current affairs.<br/><br/>I like the topic this book explores, and the examples of progress through the ages help put things into perspective. Bregman also spends a lot of time comparing the opinions of other writers, which is not my favorite style.
Rated Daisy Jones & The Six 8/10
A few years ago I bounced off the TV series Daisy Jones & The Six… turns out I just didn’t like it in a visual format.<br/><br/>The audiobook? Loved it. Full cast, great cadence, and a real page-turner. This book still delivers as a page-turner, but it’s where the series starts to feel overly convoluted, with characters becoming too powerful. A fun coming of age story with interesting world building, and a plot that develops at a good pace. The characters are interesting, although they are (especially early on) a bit flat. I don't mind it too much, as it makes this an easy read.<br/><br/>What I minded more was the overly present romance plot (expected in this genre) and the very explicit sex chapters. Those parts were not my cup of tea.
