Rated Beat Fatigue With Yoga: The Simple Step-By-Step Way to Restore Energy 8/10
The title Beat Fatigue with Yoga sounds like something one would see on an infomercial, I know. To be honest, I don’t think I’d have even considered the book had it not been recommended by someone with similar health issues. Once I was done rolling my eyes at the title, I found quite a bit of useful information.

Like anything self-help or exercise related, your results may vary. Still, if depleted energy levels are an issue for you, I don’t think it would hurt to investigate this book. I’m guessing that over time, I will use it as a guide, but not a bible. My body and my attitude will decide the rest.

(My full review can be found on Persephone Magazine.

Rated Black and Blue 8/10

A good mystery, though not everything from the mid-'90s holds up today

Rated Bernice Summerfield: Treasury 8/10

A solid collection of Benny short stories. Figures that Stephen Moffat's is another "boy has mysterious lady in his life" (AND there's a character named Irene!), but the man knows what he likes writing, I guess!!

A really solid, suspenseful mystery, but WHEW is it GRIM.

Rated Bruja 10/10
How appropriate to finish this book on Halloween (and also its official release date).

This book easily disproves the commonly heard refrain that hearing about other people's dreams is boring. BRUJA is certainly not boring, and is instead a surreal trip through art, anxiety, motherhood, California, and more. I loved it.

Particularly amusing to me were dreams involving cats... My cat dreams are usually hella weird.

Fuller review to come (she says with optimism because I've been slow about review writing this year).
Wants to read Classifieds: An Anthology of Prose Poems
Rated Bunny 8/10

This book is as if THE LATE AMERICANS by Brandon Taylor were a horror novel filtered through Mean Girls and Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" video.

This is an endorsement.

Rated Children of the Land 10/10
What an excellent, honest, and illuminating memoir. Marcelo Hernandez Castillo brings us into his life as an undocumented-then-green-carded immigrant, and what it is like to not fully identify with the country of one's birth, nor of one's residence. The story of his parents' lives, both together and apart, is both heartfelt (without shying away from their flaws) and frustrating — frustrating in the sense that an immigrant's efforts to do things "right" is expensive, difficult, and draining, all for it to be arbitrarily denied because some official just wasn't feeling it that day. The writing is beautiful — unsurprising given Hernandez Castillo's poetry background — and I am so glad I read this.

Rated Crack the Spine: Spring 2012 6/10
Crack the Spine is a weekly online magazine that specializes in poetry and short fiction. The printed anthology, published through CreateSpace, collects a season’s worth of their best material and lets the reader embrace the tactile sensation in its title. I brought this book on vacation, figuring that I was given permission to let it get banged about in my bag.

And how was it? Fairly good, though a bit uneven in places. This pressed on a few historic wounds, and I welcomed it.

Rated Caliban’s War 10/10
Still loving this series. My one quibble is, yes, we get it, Bobbie is bigger than the rest of them. No need to mention it every single time she walks into the room.
