Rated Crack the Spine: Spring 2012 6/10
Crack the Spine is a weekly online magazine that specializes in poetry and short fiction. The printed anthology, published through CreateSpace, collects a season’s worth of their best material and lets the reader embrace the tactile sensation in its title. I brought this book on vacation, figuring that I was given permission to let it get banged about in my bag.

And how was it? Fairly good, though a bit uneven in places. Rated Consider the Lobster and Other Essays 8/10
Rated Conviction 8/10

I started to see the ending coming at a certain point, but this was still very good, and the short chapters made me want to read "just a bit more" every time. It's an interesting take on fame, true crime obsessions, and a little bit about money buying power and what that does to the people around them.

Rated Crook Manifesto 8/10

I liked this a lot, and I'm sure that if Colson Whitehead decides to write a third Ray Carney novel, I will read it.

Rated Companion to an Untold Story 8/10
Not every writer would be able to pull off a book like this, and I don't know how much attention Aldrich has received for her effort — apart from winning the AWP Award for Creative Nonfiction — but I suspect that it isn't what it deserves. Yet, Companion to an Untold Story is not a project that set out wishing for accolades. (Let's be honest, writers, we won't turn down praising-recognition of our work.) Though I can only infer her intentions, it seems to me that Aldrich wanted this book to be the best way she could memorialize her friend, and in that, find some acceptance. That others may identify and find value in it, I imagine, is but a wonderful gift.

(My full review can be found at Glorified Love Letters.)
Rated Doctor Who: Audacity 8/10
Rated Doctor Who: At Childhood’s End 10/10
Wow, this was excellent! I picked the audiobook version, partially because the print edition isn't out in the US yet and partially because I liked that Sophie Aldred read it herself, and it was definitely worth it. Aldred does the different accents for everyone excellently, and the story itself is great. It follows up on Ace as an adult, and what it's like to go about your "regular" life, once one's time travelling with the Doctor is over. Plus, it's always fun to see newer Doctors interact with older companions. I definitely recommend this for any Doctor Who fan.
Rated Cutting edge, Vol. 1 6/10

I enjoyed some of the art — though I have no idea why some of the women required corsets and thigh-highs at one point, sigh — and some of the page layouts did a great job at conveying a lot of story information at once. The story itself was an interesting premise, but overall, this was just an ok read.

Rated Deathless Divide 10/10

Just as good as the first book. I listened to the audiobook version, and this time we get half the chapters from the point of view of Katherine, and both narrators do a good job. If it continues on after this, great, and if not, it ends in a satisfying way.

Wants to read Directions to the Beach of the Dead
Finished reading Daleks: Mission to the Unknown
Rated Dalek Empire I: Chapter Two - The Human Factor 6/10
This is... fine enough. I am interested enough to see how it shakes out with the next two stories, but it's not love.
Rated Dark Sparkler: Provocative Poems on Hollywood's Tragic Starlets from Marilyn Monroe to Brittany Murphy 10/10
Why did I wait so long to read this? Did I need time to lift my head from my own muck first? whatever the reason, I'm glad I read this, finally. Dark, wonderful, obsessive poetry.
Wants to read Daughters of the Lake
Rated Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious - He Kills Me, He Kills Me Not 8/10
I very much enjoyed this, though it almost felt too short. (I know, it's part of a larger story and I do have the next installment.) Brian the Ood was perfectly unnerving.

Also, can I say how good it is to see more women writing these Doctor Who audios? Continue that, please. No slight on the gentlemen writers, but for almost 20 years, BF was a bit of a boy's club.
Rated Dark Gallifrey: Missy, Part 2 10/10

Loved it.

Rated Devil Sent the Rain: Music and Writing in Desperate America 10/10
Devil Sent the Rain is an excellent book. One does not have to be a big fan of the blues or “rural” music to find value within its pages, for Piazza writes in an informative way that's moving and honest.

(My full review can be found on Glorified Love Letters.)
Rated Dark Gallifrey: The War Master, Part 2 8/10

Between parts one and two, I'm not sure I'm 100% sure what all happened, but Benny, The War Master and Captain John together for some chaos is enjoyable.
