Snac2 is an excellent software solution for accessing the Fediverse. It is lightweight, very easy to compile and install, has minimal dependencies, and the development is progressing along a clear, clean, and logical path - thank you, @grunfink
Since last December, BSD Cafe has had, among its services, a snac instance - https://snac.bsd.cafe - which has been used sparingly, mainly by some for testing purposes. I’ve kept it as a 'testing' option.
In light of the interest it is generating (we now have stable users) and given that development is evolving to allow for both inbound and outbound movement, I have decided to designate it as a stable solution for accessing the Fediverse and to consider it a primary service of the BSD Cafe.
It has always received the utmost attention, I have consistently updated it promptly, and it has always been accessible, but I have also modified all the descriptions to clarify that it is a stable and definitive solution.

I am grateful for all the work you put into your BSD cafe community.
As an outside observer,
your example and public decisions have answered much of my fediverse questions, except this one :
Were you to start your BSD Cafe community today, and decided to choose only one fediverse program to run,
Do you think SNAC would be enough to satisfy your community members, instead of using Mastodon ?
That's my question.
Here's some extra context :
I don't want to run Mastodon as it seems the technical aspects are beyond my abilities.
I have learning-curve fatigue the more I looked into setting up and then maintaining Mastodon.
I'm still considering Friendica, simply because I can turn RSS feeds into fediverse usernames, which appear in the Local Friendica timeline.
Take away my RSS requirement,
Then SNAC seems like it's enough.

Dear friends of the BSD Cafe,
This idea has been in my mind since the very beginning of this adventure, almost two years ago. Over time, several people have suggested it. But until recently, I felt the timing just wasn’t right - for many reasons. Today, I believe it finally is.
So I’m happy to announce a new service:
The BSD Cafe Journal - https://journal.bsd.cafe
At first, I thought I’d use BSSG for it (I even added multi-author support with this in mind), but in the end, it didn’t feel like the right tool for the job.
The idea is to create a multi-author space, with content published on a fairly regular basis. A reference point for news, updates, tutorials, technical articles - a place to inform and connect.
Just like people in Italy used to stop by cafes to read the newspaper and chat about the day’s news, the BSD Cafe Journal aims to be a space for reading, sharing, and staying informed - all in the spirit of the BSD Cafe.
What it’s not:
It’s not here to replace personal blogs, or excellent newsletters like @vermaden 's. And it’s not an aggregator.
What it is:
A place where authors can write original content, share links to posts on their own blogs or elsewhere, publish guides, offer insights, or dive into technical explanations.
The guiding principles are the same as always: positivity, constructive discussion, promoting BSDs and open source in general. No hype (sharing a cool new service is fine, posting non-stop about the latest trend is not), no drama, no politics. The goal is to bring people together, not divide them. To inform, not inflame.
Respect, tolerance, and inclusivity are key. Everyone should feel welcome reading the BSD Cafe Journal - never judged, offended, or excluded.
The platform I’ve chosen is WordPress, for several reasons: it’s portable (runs well on all BSDs), has great built-in role management (contributors, authors, etc.), and - last but not least - supports ActivityPub.
This means every author will have their own identity in the Fediverse (like: @stefano ) and can be followed directly, and it’ll also be possible to follow the whole Journal.
Original and educational content is encouraged, but it’s also perfectly fine to link to existing articles elsewhere. Personally, I’ll link my technical posts from ITNotes whenever I publish them there.
The goal is simple: a news-oriented site, rich in content, ad-free, respectful of privacy - all under the BSD Cafe umbrella.
Content coordination will happen in a dedicated Matrix room for authors. There’ll also be a public room for discussing ideas, giving feedback, and sharing suggestions.
Of course, I can’t do this alone. A journal with no content is just an empty shell.
So here’s my call for action:
Who’s ready to lend a hand? If you enjoy writing, explaining, sharing your knowledge - the Journal is waiting for you.

Today is a special day! It is the BSD Cafe's birthday!
Exactly three years ago today, I was rather timidly announcing this project to the world. It was an idea that had already been in my mind for some time, but had not yet become reality.
Three years later, I am proud to say that the BSD Cafe is sailing at full speed towards the uncertain horizons of the modern world.
We are here to talk about BSD, Open Source, projects, conferences, freedom, pizza and tiramisu, but above all about passions, interests, discoveries and knowledge. We are here among friends who share interests and passions, without geography or borders, apart from those defined by mutual respect.
Your Barista is more energised than ever.
During the past year, he had to retire one of the services, BlendIT, our Lemmy instance, but he also added several new ones: Journal, based on WordPress, Billboard, running on NodeBB, the Delta Chat relay, and more.
He also had to withdraw from BSDCan, with enormous regret, but he is now ready for EuroBSDCon. And for other new things that will gradually follow.
For example, here is a small preview: I have been experimenting with MeshCore.
My dream? One or more BSD Cafe services that do not use the Internet at all. I already have a few ideas, so I shall not disclose anything more for now 😉
And I will never grow tired of repeating that the BSD Cafe is a success because of you.
I am just the Barista, but a place like this is nothing without the friends sitting at the bar. And the friends of this bar are wonderful people who, every day, help make my days calmer, happier and more interesting.
So thank you for these three years, and thank you for being here.
We shall continue sailing together towards the future, with smiles on our faces and passion in our hearts.

Dear friends of the #BSDCafe and the entire community,
Unfortunately, sometimes things in life do not go as planned. Becoming an adult also means learning to accept this and to set priorities. Over the past few months I have had some family matters that required my attention. I waited as long as possible before making a final decision, but the moment has now come.
I have informed the BSDCan team that, sadly, I will have to withdraw from the event and will not be able to present my talk.
BSD conferences have become some of the most important events of the year for me. They bring joy, positivity, and motivation. When one ends, I already start looking forward to the next with enthusiasm. In Zagreb I said goodbye to everyone with "see you in Ottawa". This year, unfortunately, that will not happen.
The only consolation is that the situation fortunately seems to be moving toward a resolution, although more slowly than expected. Because of this, I cannot in good conscience keep things uncertain and hope that everything will work out in time. I need to take a step back for now, already feeling the enthusiasm for the next EuroBSDCon.
Monday Monday...
Last night there was a blackout for over an hour. The local substation overloaded because everyone in the area had their AC running on full blast. And this week they say they're coming to finish the FTTH installation.
My wife bets that the appointment will fall through this time too.

Periodic official communication, just to clarify a few things.
The BSD Cafe is an open, inclusive and friendly community. A community of people who try to be *“pro, not against”* and *“supporters, not haters”*: enthusiasts, friends, people who come here to share, to learn, to discuss. Not to hate each other.
This does not mean that we all have to think in the same way. Quite the opposite: it means that we can have different opinions, discuss them, defend them strongly, and question each other’s ideas.
What it does not mean is that it is acceptable to insult, threaten, attack people, or pretend that there can only be one morally acceptable position on every possible subject.
Calling the BSD Cafe a "Nazi Bar" from the outside simply because we do not automatically censor people who have an opinion different from yours is offensive towards the hundreds of people who are part of this community.
People are, of course, free to criticise what happens here. But expecting us to attack, ban or silence someone because you believe they deserve it, and then accusing the whole Cafe because we do not, is something different.
And I have seen something even worse lately: actual calls for hate. The equivalent of *“hey, everyone, go and attack this person”*, simply because that person does not share your position.
No. This is not acceptable.
And, dear friends, declaring yourself anti-Nazi while organising a crowd against somebody, intimidating them and treating them as an enemy who deserves to be attacked means using exactly the kind of methods you claim to oppose.
I do not say this lightly. I come from a family, and from a country, with a very real history of fascism and of the antifascism that immediately followed it. These are not just abstract words to me.
Hate is not tolerated, at any level, inside or outside the Cafe. The same is true for threats, intimidation and aggression. Believing that our cause is right does not make those behaviours more acceptable.
You disagree with someone? Say it. Explain why. Argue against their ideas. Support yours with all the conviction you want. But do not aggressively attack. This is not tolerated.
And expecting everyone else to attack that person too, or considering them somehow complicit because they do not, is something different. And it is not what I want for this community.
On any subject.

The Fediverse is a non-place, but it is made of real people. Wonderful people, very often. Let’s not turn it into version 2.0 of traditional social media, where every discussion becomes a war and anyone who does not think exactly like us automatically becomes the enemy.
In the last few weeks I have seen people stepping away exactly because of this. On different subjects, people accused of the worst things not because of something they had done, but because they had not said what someone expected them to say. Some of them, for their own wellbeing, simply decided to take a step back.
We all lost something because of that. Nobody gained anything.
So let’s keep supporting what we believe in. Let’s do it with conviction, and with firmness when needed. But let’s discuss ideas without turning people into targets.
From experience, I have learnt that real change also requires discussion, organisation, patience and concrete actions. We can disagree deeply without stopping considering each other as people.
This is the kind of place I want the BSD Cafe to continue to be.
