The Cliffs of Moher, as seen from our July cruise aboard Borealis around the coast of Ireland. The sandstone and shale cliffs run for 14 kilometres, ranging from 100 to 200 metres in height.

We're at sea on a bright, sunny evening with a little haze in the sky turning it pale blue edging towards white. The water is a deep blue and largely calm, and we're gazing across it towards land several hundred metres away. Sheer cliffs over a hundred metres in height span the middle third of the view, slightly higher on the left side than the right. Rock strata can be clearly seen running parallel to the water's surface with the lower and upper halves of the pale stone cliffs separated by a distinct boundary that bulges out slightly. The face of the cliffs undulates and is ridged slightly creating a few spaces with deep shadows but the cliffs are largely flat-fronted, with a slight green tinge of growth from about half way up where the inward slope of the bulge allows plant life to gain a foothold.
