Farlington Marshes, on the outskirts of Portsmouth, a popular spot for birdwatching or just having a nice long walk or cycle with mostly nothing but nature around. The marshes were reclaimed from the surrounding Langstone Harbour in 1771 and during World War II this land was used as a decoy site for German bombers.

It's a lightly overcast day, feeling quite cool, partly because we're quite exposed here. We're on a wide expanse of marshes. Right in front of us there's a small pond, curving around a low bank of grass and flanked by a bushy ridge that stretches to the left away from us behind the water. Part of a wooden fence can be seen to the left of the pond. The marshes stretch on into the distance, firstly over green grassy areas, then, beyond a long strip of a lake, pale yellow-coloured reeds to more distant greenery. Low hills barely rise above the horizon.
