The Fediverse is so cool. The interoperability of ActivityPub rewards you for browsing other instances, creating server-side and personal connections differently from how we were taught to browse the social web.
Currently I'm trying to figure out the most optimal way to share content around the Fediverse, from Peertube to Mastodon in particular. How it works is a bit weird.

I've seen an ongoing debate between "Note" versus "Article" in ActivityPub / ActivityStreams.
When is something a "Note"‽
When is something an "Article"‽
Personally — I would probably have made the distinction this way.
An "Article" has a title.
A "Note" doesn't have a title.
(In ActivityPub / ActivityStreams, a 'title' seems to tend to get represented in the "name" field.)

I’m no longer funded to work on #Fediverse stuff and won’t be able to attend this, but I know last year’s FediCon event was great and I hope a good, international cross-section of the community and developers are able to meet there this year!

PieFed 1.7.9 includes Anubis-like scraper blocking
AI scrapers have been hammering fediverse servers for years with things getting especially intense lately. Fediverse developers have been slow to respond with solutions so desperate instance admins have been bolting on Anubis which is fragile and really hard to configure in a way that doesn’t break federation, mobile clients or web UI access. Anubis forces browsers to run some CPU-heavy javascript for a few seconds, increasing the cost to scrapers hopefully to the point where they go elsewhere instead.
PieFed now includes that functionality as a core feature, not a separate container, proxy or process that needs to be set up. Just set the ANOOBIS environment variable and you’re done. Yes, that spelling is intentional.
The amount of work a client needs to do can be tuned with the ANOOBIS_DIFFICULTY_DESKTOP and ANOOBIS_DIFFICULTY_MOBILE environment variables - the defaults are quite weak.
Early results are very promising and a 50% CPU and network reduction on the server is commonly seen. Clients that are not logged in will see a brief loading screen, once every 1000 days, before being taken to the post they were trying to view.
I’m sure this isn’t the end of this war but I’ve been enjoying a respite from it for the last week, long may it continue.

#pppdev project will be about creating collections and pins inside of them which can be either a link,an image or a simple note.Im thinking about how to call these two entities. Right now its Collection and Pin but Pin suggests that maybe it should be Board instead of collection? On the other hand, calling them Pins dont allow us to use "Pin it to the top" terminology - which set of names is better in your opinion? Or maybe something entirely else.I guess are.na uses Collection/Block #fediverse

After about twelve hours, the same post had received more than 300 shares and likes on Mastodon, while it had only been shared three times and liked four times on BlueSky.
I'm no social media expert, but it's amazing how reluctant people are to use Mastodon because of its lack of reach and interaction.
If we bring more people here, the Fediverse could become the de facto public square.
