It has been 4 years since my original #introduction. I've had a few new followers since then. Hello! I'm a writer of #SpecFic and lead the #BSFA #OrbitShorts crit track. I'm a professional #environmentalist but mostly post about #cycling and #motornormativity. Also #MonsterOfTheWeek, #archery, and #OutdoorAdventure. I'm #neurospicy at ~2million scovilles, #synaesthetic, and enjoy chasing #Garmin badges. Opinions are entirely my own. (We will be getting another derp wolf, I'm working on it!)

The author staring directly into the camera. They are a white person with one green eye and one entirely black one. They are wearing a lime green cycling shirt and a black cycling helmet with a cycling cap underneath that has orange and pink stripes on the brim. Behind the author is the cockpit of a bicycle with aerobars and a small plush husky in a stem bag. Beyond the bicycle is the concrete promenade by the beach at Montrose, separated from the North Sea by an iron barrier painted turquoise.

@arestelle asks, about an experience they had the other day:

A man w/two little kids, all on bikes at a corner near the library. As I turned in on my e-bike, he yelled "Get a real bike!" I have a sneaking suspicion he does not run all his trips & errands on that mtn bike. Teaching his kids to be ignorant & judgy. 😑

Q4. How do people respond to jeers like this, especially when they're said in front of impressionable kids?

I have to go to campus tomorrow on my ‘research day’ so I am rebelling by riding in a bit later than normal. Going to be wet so full mudguards and flaps.

I am actually doing some research at the moment and have nearly finished my bit of work on a manuscript for Psychology of Music. Might get an hour at my desk before the workshop I’ve been asked to attend. Of course I could travel by train and I’d have more time on it, but that would be far too simple. I don’t do simple. And that has kept me sane for nearly 30 years at this wild University.

These achievements I've been able to pull of in just a couple of days.

To do this amount of cycling within urban areas & only reaching rural areas for about 30% of the time in 40° Celsius Heat is quite an achievement

🐽 Artist: #TRECO ( #DecoFarkas ) in City: #SaoPaulo #Pinheiros Brazil 🇧🇷 - Title: "CicloCapivara" 🚲 (📷 by Gabriela Batista) - #Art #Streetart #Mural #UrbanArt #Artist #Cycling #Bike #Capybara #Indoor

Streetartwall. A funny mural with a capybara on a bicycle has been painted on an interior wall in a recreation room. The yellow and brown capybara is of course wearing a red bicycle helmet and is standing on a blue racing bike. The background is gray with small lines to represent his speed. I have no idea how he's supposed to reach the pedals with his little legs, but it's the only cute mural with a capybara I could find. (...which is very strange, there should be hundreds...)

I've run a sweet training session a couple of days ago
It was on the time trial race machine, which makes it easy to run at these speeds. At this point in time the bike has a mountain steering setup which means it doesn't have the commandeurs and time trial handlebars, making the performance even more valuable.

The image displays a digital interface, likely from a cycling app, with a black background and white text. At the top, the time is shown as 20:02:42. Below, there are various metrics: elevation changes of -70 meters and -110 meters, a total distance of 26.035 kilometers, and a total time of 2 hours, 57 minutes, and 52 seconds. The current speed is 0 km/h, and the calories burned are 8,047 kcal. The interface also shows a speedometer with a avg of 8.8 km/h, and a power output of 56.2 watts. The battery level is at 92%, and there are icons for navigation, settings, and other functions. The bottom of the screen features a red button labeled "Bike 1" with a cycling emoji, and additional icons for navigation, settings, and more.

The Summer 2025 edition of Bike Buzz, which includes items relevant throughout the USA, is brief. While there may be occasional updates, the best way to catch more news this summer is to follow @bikemonterey on Mastodon.
