V říjnu jedeme na LinuxDays – chceme tam osobně ukázat OSCloud lidem, co mají blízko k Linuxu, open source a Fediverse. A rádi bychom vás poprosili o pomoc.
Provozujeme třeba Mastodon, Pixelfed, VHSky, mákni.cz, Nextcloud nebo Ente Photos – a chceme ukázat, že takové služby můžou fungovat bez reklam, bez sledování a bez vendor lock-inu, jako komunitní projekt, ne jako firma s investorem za zády.

We're now on Pixelfed.
We'll be using our new official account to share Pixelix updates, showcase features, photography and more.
Mastodon will still be our main account for development updates, announcements and engaging with the community. This account is more about showing off Pixelix and the things you can do with it.

I've sometimes thought about building a service combining #OSM and the #Fediverse, to talk with people in the same region.
It would be 100% anonymous: a dedicated account, with no link to your existing Fedi identity, and why not #E2EE for messages.
No exact location: posts are attached to the nearest town, so neither the server nor other users see your coordinates.
Anonymity could be what makes people comfortable enough to talk with people around them. Everyone stays in a safe place.

Some news from #HolosSocial development. The latest release moves media processing to the device. Videos are transcoded locally before upload. Users can store media on their own S3 or WebDAV server, and the resulting URLs are used directly in #ActivityPub activities. The relay server handles neither transcoding nor media storage. Each user brings their own resources to the #Fediverse.

Pixelix is now free!
After two and a half years of developing Pixelix and having it as a paid app, we've decided to switch things up and make Pixelix free for everyone.
We’re really excited to see where this takes Pixelix, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us so far.

This is the equivalent of the "rubber hose method" of decryption.
All technical solutions (read: all technology) is subject to politics. To political power. To political interactions.
You cannot rely on purely technical approaches. You have to have social approaches, too. Like. Actual policy and procedure geared around social and political group dynamics.
Like. How will we react when the US Govt requires that @jerry to shut off infosec.exchange servers.
Or how we'll react when a specific Mastodon server is declared part of a terrorist infrastructure. Will federating with it mean any other Mastodon server is now part of the officially designated terrorist network (what then of people that federate with a server that federates with a server that is classified as part of a terrorist network. And so on)
You cannot carry the conceit that tech alone or a purely technical approach will save you.

as far as the #fediverse zeitgeist is concerned, i did more for #sephora in the 5 days i've been on this platform, than sephora has done for sephora since the fediverse began.

#Fediverse today consists of apps and app platforms. It is entirely app-centric.
Since fediverse (luckily) didn't attract much corporate attention yet, it is dominated by #FOSS culture, where people on the #SocialWeb are all "users" that are dependent on FOSS developers to serve their needs. Every dev focuses on their app features first and #interoperability second, leading to a patchwork of poorly integrated apps, and a janky overall experience. The app delivery model is not much different than Web 2.0.
A paradigm shift is possible, to a #SocialNetwork of apps and services, a service-oriented #fedi. The efforts around the #ActivityPub API can be the enabler of this shift.
In this new paradigm devs introduce solutions to a unified #SocialNetworking space, delivering new services to participants on the network. On top of a robust Protocol Layer they model social use cases in the Data Layer, integrating with services and building blocks already available.
