Before the automobile industry invented the catalytic converter, the costs of reducing air pollution seemed astronomical, enough to bankrupt the entire industry. After they invented the catalytical converter, the costs were manageable. And they only invented it because they were faced with the threat of being shut down.

🇦🇹 Austria's Armed Forces have replaced MS Office with LibreOffice on 16,000+ workstations 📄
This shift began in 2020 to avoid mandatory cloud reliance ☁️
Their goal? Digital sovereignty—not cost saving 🔒
They even contributed 5+ person-years of code 🛠️
EU trend toward open-source grows 🇪🇺

Do you know any new open source projects that deserve recognition?
Projects that are:
- Solving real world problems and driving technical innovation
- Improving science, research or medicine
- Challenging long standing platforms or paradigms
- Just super nerdy and doing something novel!
If you do, please share them and perhaps we can help them get the attention they deserve. 🧡

the systemic and fatal mistake of modern day monopoly capitalism = modern day #feudalism not #education or #intelligence earns most #money, no whoever owns #assets everyone else is dependant on = #exploitation = will ultimately lead to less #innovation + destruction of #mankind,, #rich vs #poor #inequality growing rapidly = #collapse of #society thank you
= no matter how #smart #people or #government are or act: will lose game to whoever prints #money and buys + owns the #assets (#bank, #centralbank)
the #solution: every Dollar or Euro or Pesos invested in your own #INDEPENDENCE from the #financesystem is well invested. #water, #food, #energy, DO IT NOW!
If you ever wondered how German car makers drove themselves into the ditch and how could German industrialists and the German governing parties they own ever be so arrogant to think China would never, ever meet them and then overtake them up the value chain, here's another titan of German industry doing his best to enlighten us:

THE AWFUL STUFF SHOUTS.
THE GOOD STUFF CREATES THE FUTURE. 💎
I went looking around the internet this morning for things happening in the world that are actually fantastic. Not catastrophe. Not outrage. Not another reason to be frightened before breakfast.
AND LOOK WHAT HUMANS ARE UP TO.
China is preparing to send its Chang’e-7 mission toward the Moon’s south pole, where it will search for water ice.
WATER. ON THE MOON.
Finding it could matter enormously for future exploration because water can support life and can also be broken down into hydrogen and oxygen for fuel.
Meanwhile, researchers in Adelaide are developing water-based zinc-iodine batteries, a different kind of energy storage aimed at making large-scale renewable power safer, more stable and more practical. As we produce more electricity from sun and wind, storing that energy when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing becomes one of the great practical problems of the future.
AND THEN THERE IS THE HUMAN BRAIN.
Scientists are testing cell therapies for Parkinson’s disease that aim to replace some of the dopamine-producing brain cells the disease destroys. Not merely managing symptoms, but asking whether damaged function can actually be restored.
Researchers are also taking skin cells from children with a rare form of childhood dementia, turning them into brain-like cells in the laboratory, watching the disease unfold, and testing existing medicines against it. Several drugs have already improved the health of those cells in laboratory studies.
That is not a cure, but the very fact that we can now take a skin cell, turn it into something resembling a brain cell and ask, “WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP THIS?” would have sounded like science fiction not very long ago.
The same peculiar little ape that loses its glasses while they are sitting on its head is searching for water on the Moon, inventing better ways to store sunlight and trying to repair the human brain. Yes, we still burn things, break things, frighten one another and behave like complete idiots. But that is not the whole story.
THE AWFUL STUFF SHOUTS.
It dominates our attention because disaster demands attention. The good stuff often looks like somebody quietly going to work in the morning: a scientist, an engineer, a surgeon, a researcher looking at a damaged brain cell and wondering whether it can be fixed.
And perhaps that is the lesson.
If we keep staring at the pointing finger, we may never notice the Moon.
Every day, alongside all the stupidity, wars and destruction, human beings are quietly learning, repairing, inventing and creating the future.
Perhaps hope is not something we have to manufacture. Perhaps sometimes we only have to notice what is already happening. The future is being built quietly while the headlines are shouting about something else entirely.
And frankly, I find that rather wonderful.
