#Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps #IRGC threatened to retaliate in the wake of the #US attack on Iranian #nuclear sites. In a statement carried by the Iranian state news agency IRNA, the military body said the vast number of US bases in the region were not a point of strength, but rather a vulnerability. The Guards Corps added that #Iran retained the right to respond in self-defense & said the US would “await regrettable consequences.”

#Iran state bans #gambling for everyone in the name of "Islamic morality".
But now Reuters found a multi-billion-dollar sanctions-evasion network connected to #IRGC and state which relies on the same illegal gambling ecosystem that people are arrested, prosecuted and punished for it.
This is how authoritarian oligarchies work: one set of rules for the public and another set for those in power. #Morality is for controlling society; corruption is reserved for the elite.

27 years ago, #IRGC and their agents stormed university dormitories, beating, arresting, and killing students during the 1999 protests.
Two students, #Saeed_Zeynali and #Fereshteh_Alizadeh, disappeared during the crackdown and have never been found. Their families have spent decades searching for answers.
Today remains a symbol of resistance against authoritarianism which is continued to this day.
