The JSON field `quote_approval.current_user` of a Status entity will either contain `automatic`, `manual`, `denied` or `unsupported_policy`. We'll consider everything but `denied` as quotable.
If the field doesn't exist, for retro-compatibility, we'll use a default `d`.
In the commit you'll see that we compare the first character of that field to `d`, this is much tighter size-wise than an strcmp().

Quote posting is here. It’s the interaction controls that are of interest to me! I wonder what clients have updated for this yet? I hear Ice Cubes allows for quotes now, not sure about these per post interaction settings tho.

I've only had this account on the fediverse/mastodon for 3 years, yet I've had more weird hate than at any other time I've been online except possibly USENET in the 1990s and Twitter in the 2010s when I was tweeting favorably about Occupy. People here have suggested I'm lying more times than I remember. I mean dang, it's fine to disagree with someone but you don't need to besmirch their character. If this were the 18th century we'd be dueling.
I tend to speak my mind because I'm of the opinion that the Abilene paradox should not be a lifestyle, and that's gotten me some IRL hate over the years. But given what I've experienced here and how I've seen others treated, I'd say Mastodon really is something special in this regard.

What I do love about #Mastodon and the greater #Fediverse, by the way, are the personalities. There *is* a culture here.
Other microblogging sites have a sort of algorithmic supremacy going on where you trade personality for a ticket to the internet celebrity lottery. No individualism. You pick your niche from a set deck and you play the FYP slots.
Meanwhile, everyday I run into someone who's like "hey I'm star-cake. I'm a queer carrot farmer. I collect Soviet-era camera lenses." Amazing.

Just a quick shout out to @tapbots for making the @ivory app for #Mastodon. It's every bit as good as Tweetbot was back when Twitter was Twitter and the world was a bit nicer.
Anyway, cheers to Tapbots for making the #Fediverse a nice place to be and engage with. I highly recommend this app for people new to Mastodon.

我的 Mastodon 实例没有开 Elasticsearch 全文搜索，但偶尔又需要搜索一下历史嘟文，在 Vercel 部署了一个搜索。最开始用的是 Pagefind，后来把转嘟和回复都加进来了，Pagefind 构建就太慢了，有 7K 个页面，又改为 MiniSearch，现在又改为 FlexSearch 了。

This is my first "official" Mastodon-style quote-post.
Although, quote-posting has existed on the Fediverse for years now — on Misskey, on all the Misskey forks (ex: Firefish), on Pleroma, on the Pleroma forks (ex: Akkoma), on Mitra, on Hollo, on Friendica, etc.
Plus, people have been doing screen-shot style quote-posts on Mastodon (and other places on the Fediverse), too, for years.

#Mastodon would be awesome if it had a personal algorithmic feed that I could program and define myself, suggesting exactly the posts I want to read. This chronological stuff makes so much get lost, and it really keeps me from using Mastodon more.
There's a renewed conversation around the lack of options for migrating post history when you move to a new Mastodon server.
And seeing a few people mentioning how this can be a reason for folks to give up on the fediverse when their server shuts down, I hope the Mastodon team will prioritize this.
