Wow check out this patriotic QSL card that popped up in my logging software during a #QSO (callsign and location redacted)

Trees are all cleared away now, and I'm driving to our engineering office next week, which puts me within striking distance of the New Hampshire HRO, so I'm hopeful that it will work out that I can pick up the replacement mast and antenna and save myself the shipping costs.
Fingers crossed.

"Oh, out in the countryside has to be great for #radio stuff. #Shortwave and #hamRadio and all that! So little signal noise!"

Hello fellow #hamradio friends.
Is there a good diy usb tuning knob project out there that can easily be build?
Im planning to get a bit more into the hobby again and this would come in very handy.
Im thinking about something like the rc-28

What are your favorite books on repairing things? What about books on making things?
As the internet gets filled with AI slop I've been putting together a personal library for friends and neighbors.
I have a book on bike repair, two books related to making, altering, and mending clothes, a book on home repairs, a book about electronics, and the book I used to study for my Ham radio exam.
The Pride Radio Network's new logo is complete! For those who are curious, the artist I commissioned to make this logo is Shintaworld, you can find info about her at her webpage: https://shintaart.weebly.com/
I'm trying to figure out the information for the Maricopa County New Hams Net. I know I can listen on 440.375 MHz at 7pm on Thursdays, but I don't seem to have any information on transmitting.
Looking for information online seems to bring up old web pages with different recieve frequencies. I got my information from a friend and was able to listen a few weeks ago, but not transmit. I'm pretty sure they stated the transmitting on the air, but I had trouble programming at the time.

Space satellite company is using #hamradio bands without permission, and now is looking to take away the 430 to 440Mhz band for its exclusive use.
AMSAT:
"Despite not being amateur satellites the first five commercial satellites use these amateur frequencies for telemetry links with a 50 kHz bandwidth: 430.5, 432.3, 434.1, 435.9 and 439.5 MHz..... AST SpaceMobile are planning to launch a further 243 satellites .... In February they submitted a request to the FCC Space Bureau for use of the amateur band worldwide"
(Update: "Note that the last day to comment is Monday July 21.")

The company that wants to take away parts of 70cm ham radio for its own use ALSO is a problem child in the field of astronomy 😡
"...one of the newest satellites, BlueWalker 3, outshines all
but a handful of the brightest visible stars. It exemplifies how, without stronger regulation,
satellites could substantially change the view of the night sky worldwide (Fig. 1), and severely
jeopardize future use of Earth’s orbit for science, communication and space exploration. .... The BlueWalker 3 satellite, which
has been in orbit since September 2022, was launched by a relatively small operator, telecommunications firm AST SpaceMobile:"

Looking over Black Friday announcements from HRO and DX Engineering yields an interesting takeaway: today’s “super-specials” look a lot like last year’s everyday prices for many items. Anyone else seeing this too? #HamRadio #BlackFriday

I had dug out my boxes of tech supplies recently to show my kid stuff they could work with on the spare computer. And found the lost #GMRS radios.
That caught their eye, and we were able to charge them. They’ve been listening to it on and off. Today I helped when they’d found a net. I was able to confirm it was a repeater setup, the reported cities were to far away. I then found out which repeater/net it was, and looked up the details to join.
$50-100/year, and they don’t want to spend the money to join.
I gently pushed for them to keep learning the #HamRadio questions, and I’d pay any fees.
How do lightning arrestors (the kind that go on an outdoor antenna feed line, bonded to ground) function? what do they look like internally?

Question for #HamRadio folx out there who are also #Blind. How did you handle questions on the test that use schematics? I just discovered this is an issue while studying on a site that, so far, has been reasonably accessible. Hoping figuring out how others have handled it might help me figure out how to proceed and/or what suggestions I can make to the site so I can proceed and/or others after me don't face the same problems. Thanks in advance, and please boost for reach.
