Nineteen days before the U.S. sanctions deadline, Autistici/Inventati is shutting down.
For twenty-five years, A/I built infrastructure for people who understood that privacy, autonomy and resistance require more than good intentions. Now a government order has made keeping that infrastructure alive untenable.
There is grief in this. There should also be fury.
Because fascism does not arrive only as boots in the street. Sometimes it arrives as a designation, a compliance deadline, a terrified service provider, a bank account that suddenly stops working. Bureaucracy has always been one of authoritarianismâs favorite costumes. The paperwork looks terribly respectable while the walls close in.
And this cannot remain a problem for âthe nerds.â People organizing in every sphere need to understand what autonomous infrastructure means, why it matters, and what happens when we leave it to a tiny number of exhausted technical collectives to keep the lights on for everyone else.
We need to become the thousand servers. Now.
If one autonomous project can be isolated, there should be ten more behind it. A hundred. A thousand. This should be the moment radical hosting, federated services, community servers, privacy infrastructure and collectively controlled networks begin flourishing, not retreating. Build them in basements, social centers, infoshops, collectives, cooperatives and wherever else people can keep a machine humming and a cable plugged into the wall.
The lesson cannot be that autonomous infrastructure was too dangerous to maintain.
The lesson has to be that we did not have nearly enough of it.
We â€ïž A/I. We are heartbroken to see it end this way. And we refuse to treat its shutdown as the end of the idea it spent twenty-five years proving was possible.

Autistici/Inventati auf der US-Sanktionsliste
Das US-Regime unter dem Faschisten Trump bzw. das US-Finanzministerium (https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0616/) holt zu einem weiteren Schlag gegen linke Organisierung aus und setzt neben Palestine Action und Masar Badil das italienische Tech-Kollektiv Autistici/Inventati (https://www.autistici.org/) auf die Sanktionsliste. BegrĂŒndet wird dies damit, dass das Kollektiv internationalen und us-amerikanischen linken Gruppen, besonders âderâ Antifa, mit ihrer technischen Diensten âextrem linken Terrorismusâ ermögliche.
Das heiĂt, dass A/I von allen finanziellen Diensten ausgeschlossen ist, die us-amerikanische Unternehmen anbieten. Auf ihrer Website unter âDonateâ sieht mensch, dass es dort die Möglichkeiten gibt, per Kreditkarte (also Mastercard oder Visa: beides US-Konzerne) und PayPal (auch ein US-Konzern, gegrĂŒndet von den Faschisten Thiel und Musk) zu spenden. Aber auch ganz normale BankĂŒberweisungen können betroffen sein, wenn â wie im Fall der Roten Hilfe letzten Winter (https://nigra.noblogs.org/post/2025/12/23/schafft-mehr-rote-hilfe-konten-wieder-her/) â das US-Regime Druck auf die in Belgien sitzende Organisation SWIFT ausĂŒbt und in Folge dessen die Konten geschlossen werden.
Ich nutze den Blog-Dienst noblogs.org von A/I seit vielen Jahren, genauso wie viele andere anarchistische Genoss*innen und Gruppen. Ich habe eine Emailadresse bei A/I und auch die anderen Dienste habe ich ĂŒber die Jahre immer wieder genutzt. A/I ist eines von einer Hand voll linken und anarchistischen vertrauenswĂŒrdigen Tech-Kollektiven, die es Menschen wie mir ermöglichen, mich jenseits der durchgeknallten, von Hetz-Algorithmen getriebenen Fascho-Tech-Diensten im Netz zu bewegen und kommunizieren. Die Genoss*innen von A/I haben meine volle SolidaritĂ€t und ich hoffe, dass die Repression ins Leere lĂ€uft.

If you haven't heard of Autistici before, they are the host of #NoBlogs, which (to my knowledge) is the largest @WordPress host for activists, collectives and social spaces there is.

For 25 years, Autistici/Inventati has built communications systems designed to survive censorship, surveillance, police raids and corporate interference. Now the state is attacking something harder to seize than a server: the financial and technological relationships that allow that infrastructure to exist.
Now that infrastructure itself is being treated as evidence of terrorism, and solidarity is turning into âmaterial support.â
This isn't only an attack on A/I. It's a warning to anyone building servers, encrypted communications, independent publishing platforms and other infrastructure that makes organizing beyond state and corporate surveillance possible.

The webarchiving effort of #noblogs I'm involved in (one of many independent efforts) is nearing completion.
For a couple days now, the task is quality assurance to catch potential systemic issues. (Luckily nothing like this has manifested so far)
It's 48h before noblogs.org goes down and we need more eyes - no technical knowledge required, only a browser and some patience to click on links.
