This week’s Fossil Friday is a Saurornitholestes tooth from the Dinosaur Park Formation. Saurornitholestes was a small theropod, closely related to Velociraptor, that would have stood about 60 cm tall and measured roughly 1.5 m long in life.
The serrations on this tooth helped it cut more efficiently into the flesh of its prey. This specimen, APS 1986.003, was found west of Iddesleigh by Donald Sabo.

A seven-meter megalosaurid named Joaquinraptor casani was described this week by Lucio M. Ibiricu and his colleagues. Apart from consisting of one of the most complete megalosaurid skeletons, we also know what it was feeding on! A truly impressive discovery.

The fact that all mammals on this planet, including ourselves, have their origin in a tiny primate or pre-primate that weighed less than 20 grams, makes me very humble.
It lived during the early Paleocene, ~66 Million years ago, probably on trees. It had appeared pretty "soon" after the big bang. This alone is a miracle.
