The parasitic mushrooms of the sulphur caves of Exoplanet 14352.
Every eight years the mushrooms begin their life cycle, lifting their button heads out of the darkness, to soak in the weak sunlight. They then burrow deeper into the caves with weak acids, eating the sulphur and eventually launching spoor out of the cave, to grow and dig their own caves.

This is a photo of a flower. It is the close detail of the centre of a flower. The yellow with red veined petals are creating a deep cave in the middle of the flower, the place where bees collect their pollen. Sticking out of the centre is the stamen of the flower. There is one green round button in the centre stamen, and around it are six white fuzzy things that could be bath sponges. They are coming out of the dark and could be mushrooms on a different planet. Really, they could be.

Today marks the final day of the Summer of 2026 in the Northern Hemisphere and what a summer!
Whenever recalling memorable summers of the past, the go-to benchmark has invariably been 1976 (more so if you were of an age to remember it!).
I think, without a doubt, that 2026 will now be taking that mantle for most of those living across the UK.
Summer officially arrived at the solstice on 21 June, but here on Wearside, it kicked off a little earlier when the BBC Radio One Big Weekend set up camp at Herrington Country Park back in May.
The event saw the sun beating down on the thousands of music fans turning up to see acts performing across the weekend of 22-24 May.
And best of all, it was a fabulous showcase for the city with the event screened on BBC TV and those fantastic memorable sweeping panoramas of Herrington Country Park and the iconic Penshaw Monument.
