The photograph shows a calm, natural lake surface with aquatic plants. In the foreground, several water lily leaves of various sizes and colours (ranging from pale pink to dark red) float on the water. The lake bed is covered with a layer of algae. The light shines through the clear water, creating a peaceful, almost autumnal atmosphere. The stems of the water lilies rise up from the lake bed.

Super Green

#LeafScrolling #Nature #Photography

A vibrant green leaf, featuring a prominent central midrib dividing the frame diagonally from the upper left to the lower right.

Numerous fine, parallel veins branch out from the central stem across the blade of the leaf.

Shadows cast across the leaf create a striped visual pattern of alternating lighter and darker green tones.

A close-up overhead view of a tight cluster of small wild mushrooms growing from decaying bark on a shadowy woodland floor. The rounded, pale cream-coloured caps show delicate radial ridges and warm, toasted ochre centres, with one cap showing a small nibbled notch. Soft, dappled natural light illuminates the smooth, velvety surfaces of the fungi, which stand out sharply against a moody background of damp green moss, fallen twigs, and dark leaf litter.

Countryside rural scene on a sunny day in Autumn where a single tall tree with leaves turning red stands by a large plowed field of yellow sandy dirt. There are greenhouses behind it, a farm and a caravan and car. The sky is blue with a few cotton candy white clouds. In the foreground the fence is made of wooden posts.

Greetings from Narnia!

We continue to find pinewood king bolete #mushrooms but they're still exceptionally rare and the aftermath of the nearly 4-month drought through the summer continues. Chance finds in our walks are rare and far between and only sparse secluded spots that we pinpointed the previous years remain loyal.

But the word that they can be found had spread among Narnian people by now so the forests are full of frustrated foragers carrying empty baskets. Thing is, these are symbiotic mushrooms. They still persist underground in same locations they could be found the previous years but they're unlikely to produce fruiting bodies in abundance where their host trees struggled for so long and are still recovering from the stress of the prolonged drought. And that's regardless the spates of rain we had recently. So the chance of success can be evaluated from afar even just by visually examining health of their host trees.

Saprophytic species can be found much easier however as they feed on decaying matter and those include some rather tasty members so just adjusting expectations and maybe expanding the list of sought after species a bit could let them avoid the occasional forager frustration in the future. Just a kind suggestion 😉

Yesterday sister took me to a location with Roman buildings and not too far a beauty of a spring.

Roman, tower, bridge and section of road paving. At Portagem, near Marvão, PT. Fascinating. There's a public swimming pool made IN the river Sever.

The spring is on the other side of Marvão, filled four bottles and took them back. The place feels so good that I was seriously tempted to dive in the washing tank. Didn't.

Roll 19717325, cont.: Riverside (1971-73)

One: Melanie and her Saab 850, our car after my '48 Chevy threw a rod. "850" referred to the size of the car's engine. In cc's. But plenty of power: it was a two-stroke. You had to add oil whenever you got gas, though the car would mix them by itself. With freewheeling and controls by cable (Saab was still mainly an aircraft company, so the car inherited controls from WW2 fighter planes), it was ... unusual.

This car featured prominently in a saga I talked about here back in the "lost rolls" series. I might revisit it when we get to that point in the timeline.

I used AI to restore a 1920s photo of my grandmother. It gave me a clear face, but of a complete stranger.

How can an image become clearer yet less accurate? Generative tools don't reveal data; they invent it. To an outsider, it looks perfect. To family, identity is lost.

We explore the limits of AI photo restoration and how to preserve history without losing the truth.
