Mount Rainier is reflected upside down in the still water of Reflection Lakes, with snowy slopes and rocky ridges visible behind a band of dark evergreen forest. Small fir trees along the near shoreline rise into the reflection, adding depth and scale. The scene feels quiet and calm.

Thursday evening at Little Tipsoo Lake.

The sun was setting right over Mount Rainier, so the contrast was really difficult while I was waiting for the light to improve.

Then the sun slipped behind Rainier and, for just a few minutes, this incredible glow appeared in the clouds above the mountain and in the lake reflection. It became unbelievably bright.

Everyone around the lake was saying, “Wow, look at that light!”

Then, almost as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.

Mountain Monday ⛰️ roaming Colorado

I’m feigning for some strength today, so I thought sharing the front range of the Rocky Mountains may do it. We felt isolated yet invincible, the spirit of the west.
