1/ As #winter in the #mountains winds down, I am concluding my fifth year of #snowshoeing in the mountains. So many great memories, so much to reflect. I began doing serious snowshoeing in the mountains around the peak of the pandemic (winter 2020/2021) when I needed to get outside. (CONT) #MountainMonday #PhotoMonday

#MountainMonday the days may be shorter in the northern hemisphere, but the mornings can be gorgeous. View of the Santnerspitze and Schlern from Eppan, South Tirol, Italy.

Photo from a hike to the hamlet of Findeln, Zermatt. In-camera raw edit. I chose black and white because it gives the Matterhorn a 3-D pop.
#MountainMonday from almost exactly a decade ago. This is deep in the Kings Canyon National Park back country.
Can any mountain sleuths recognize where exactly this is?
Here's another hint: this area used to be popular with hunters and anglers before the park. There was a dude ranch a couple of basins away (that still exists although now it's just for the family that owns it rather than open to the public) that would horse pack people into this area. Down below treeline in the basin and canyon below there's also an acre garden planted centuries ago by the folks who lived here first. It's still full of species that are found on the east side of the Sierra Nevada but not in this part of the west side.
These days this whole basin might get 20 people a year visiting if that. The trails that once were busy now have mostly been erased from official maps. There are a couple of traverse routes into even more remote areas of the park and the adjoining Sierra National Forest that hosts the John Muir Wilderness which is the main draw for people into here.
(I know where it is so I can confirm if someone gets it right!)

Rain and the rays of the setting sun over the mountains opposite Clavadel, Davos, Switzerland this weekend.
I took this photo of the Aletsch Glacier about 10 years ago. I’m going back there next week to see what’s changed.

Last August my partner and I did one of the most incredible backpacking trips back to back, hiking more than 130km in 6 days (two of which were rest days) through the #CanadianRockies
This frame was from on our rest days when we did a small hike to a nearby meadow to enjoy the panoramic views of the #Mountains

We went on a 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip last week in the Olympic NP at Grand Valley. Down Badger Valley where marmots whistled in the meadows to Moose Lake where many deer came to investigate our campsite, and then the next day to Grand Pass with glorious views to the valleys beyond. At night we heard owls calling back and forth across the lake. Returned before the rain started.
Tahoma from Spray Park with Observation Rock (?) in the foreground.
I came away from Mount Rainier National Park with a list of places I would love to return to. This is #2.
