We have a family hobby of taking group photos with downer place signs like Spider Lake or Dead Man's Cove or whatever, and our destination list is running low. What are your favourites? Bonus if they are in #BC or especially #VancouverIsland , but anywhere is fun to know about.
Open to anything with a sign (town, hotel, road, plaque, etc) 🦇💀🪦
Buffleheads (Bucephala albeola) are cute but they dive ''all the time'' and you end up with a lot of photos of the sea. 😆 This is the female.
Le petit garrot est bien mignon mais il est toujours en train de plonger alors tu te retrouves avec plein de photos de la mer. Ceci est la femelle.

If you'd like to capture the herring spawn on Vancouver Island, I offer daily photo tours in March. We photograph this amazing event from the shore, not from a boat so you don't need to worry about seasickness or the tour being cancelled because of a rough sea.
Max 3 guests per tour to limit our impact on wildlife. Learn more on my website: https://www.catherinebabault.com/workshops

I am a quiet and calm wildlife photographer. I move slowly. I pause often. I feel, smell and listen to nature around me. Sometimes wildlife gets close because they trust me or they are just curious.
Recently a family of Black-tailed deer, 2 females and their fawns, walked towards me and then around me while foraging. They were so close that I could have touched them. I didn't. I remained still.
Here's one of the fawns.

#WildlifeWednesday This chunky black bear had only one thing in mind: eat salmon. Dozens of salmon were going up stream navigating their way around rocks in shallow waters when I took these photos. Do you think the bear caught a salmon?

My office earlier this week.
This black bear stood in the middle of the river and focused on a spot where many salmon had gathered. The bear was keeping a close eye on their movement, waiting for the right moment to jump and catch one.

Mrs. and Mr. Wood Duck (Aix sponsa) on an early morning stroll at a marsh.
Spotted during a recent photo tour. We heard their call first so we approached very slowly and quietly.
