We just spent 4 days at Katmai National Park during what is supposed to be the slow season. We got lucky with huge sockeye salmon run, fine weather, and anywhere from 4 to 14 bears around Brooks Falls. Amazing experience!

This gorgeous chunky black bear just spotted a delicious salmon. At this time of year, bears consume up to 20,000 calories per day. It is called hyperphagia. I can only hope to eat that much! 😆
