The first few developed sketches from my wee tour of Anglesey’s ancient sites. More burial chambers to come #AltText #StandingStoneSunday #Sketchbook

Photograph of a sketch in pencil on a sketchbook page, showing an arrangement of standing stones, closely placed, in circle with an entrance denoting the site as the foundations of a Romano-British roundhouse. A perimeter all of the same material and arrangement sits behind the house. Grass predominates with fallen stones in the foreground, while a thick, wintry tree line forms the background.

Photograph of a sketch in pencil on a sketchbook page, showing a small patch of daisies in sunshine silhouetted against a large rock of a with darker vegetation and other, distant rocks arranged (by man) in the middle distance. The site is an ancient hut settlement of the Romano-British period.

Photograph of a sketch in pencil on a sketchbook page, showing the disc-like growth of Pennywort among the rocks of a wall on the exterior of an ancient burial chamber. There is the sense of bright but not strong sunshine. The texture of the rock is coarse while the vegetation has a smooth, glossy sheen.

For #StandingStoneSunday it's Pentre Ifan from a visit 8 years ago to the day on a wonderful trip to #Wales with some English friends. The fellow checking his phone is Andy Burnham, no, the other one, of Megalithic Portal fame.

With another friend, Jon Morris, we were on an adventure to sources of Stonehenge's bluestones. In the process we experienced every kind of Welsh weather. We also saw Michael Parker Pearson give a talk. What a fun time!

Pentre Ifan in grey weather. Several uprights coming to a point at the top and on those points rests a huge capstone. Some broader stones stand adjacent to it and another is flat on the ground.

Pentre If an again from another angle and leaning on an upright is a man in dark clothes checking his phone. Distant hills are visible in the background.

Edit: this Toot will get edited when new tags are shared.

A vintage-style sepia photograph, presented as if on a film strip with sprocket holes and artificial scratches, captures a concentrated moment. Cynni is crouching on natural, rocky terrain among sparse bushes at Burgers' Zoo, fully focused on framing a picture. They look intently through the viewfinder of a black Nikon Coolpix P500 digital bridge camera, which they hold firmly with both hands. Their expression is one of deep concentration as they peer through the lens. Their left arm, featuring a complex stylized text tattoo, is bent, and a few rings are visible on their fingers gripping the camera body. They wear a dark short-sleeved t-shirt, camouflage cargo pants, and a dark baseball cap with white sunglasses perched on top. A Nikon-branded camera strap hangs around their neck. The background is a natural-looking zoo enclosure with other blurred figures of visitors visible in the far distance. The composition is a candid, close-up shot emphasizing their focus.

A dolmen near busy roads in Galway, Ireland (Gaillimh, Éire)

Is this an ancient dolmen or relatively new?

#StandingStoneSunday #photography #TravelPhotography #Galway #Ireland #AskFedi

A dolmen is to the right of the centre of a wide landscape orientation photo taken on a sunny day.

The dolmen consists of three stout vertical stones with a flattish stone resting on top of them. It is surrounded by green vegetation and there are conifer trees to the right. In the background are many motor vehicles and a large building with red decorative elements.
