They grow up so fast (two different families, but a good illustration of both ends of chick-hood). Look at those little wings
#photography #birds

A pair of baby masked lapwings (hatched within the past 48 hours, I reckon) in short grass, appearing to glow with backlight from the morning sun. The furthest one is flapping their teeny tiny wings

That same pair of baby masked lapwings, the nearest striding forward while the furthest bends over to peck at the ground, imitating an out-of-frame adult

Another, older masked lapwing chick in longer grass, surrounded by yellow capeweed flowers. They pause for a moment in their foraging to look at the camera, while a nearby adult supervises

When they're not being silly Bin Chickens, Ibis can look a bit pretty.

Albert Park Lake, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A photograph of an ibis flying in the sky. The bird is centre frame, and the photograph is taken at a distance, so the bird takes up only a relatively small portion of the image. The bird's body is outstretched with its long beak pointing forwards and its feet pointing backwards, and its wings are in the downward stroke of a flap. The tips of the feathers on its wings are black, as is its head and feet, and it is otherwise white. The feathers on its back are slightly off-white, perhaps due to colouration of maybe it is a little dirty. The feathers on its wing, particularly those on the end of the wing, appeare to be long individual feathers and almost make the shape of an opened hand-held fan in the way that they overlap and come back to a point at the "elbow". The sky in the background is blue with a some very flat white cloud.

Fotoreproductie van een schildering van ridders in harnas, te paard, in Mexico, Ed van der Elsken, 1960

#Mexico #EdvanderElsken #fotografie #photography #EdVanDerElsken #EdvanderElsken

http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/RP-F-2019-298-9-75

The image depicts a dramatic and dark scene rendered in monochrome, possibly using charcoal or black ink. At the center lies an elongated figure that appears to be prone on its back with legs splayed apart, suggesting vulnerability or despair. The body is muscular, detailed with shadows emphasizing muscles and bones, creating a sense of exaggerated realism.

Surrounding this central figure are several figures in a state of agitation: one seated horseman wielding what seems like a sword above the prone figure, another holding an angry-looking bear, and others appearing to be in mid-movement or battle-ready. These figures wear armor reminiscent of medieval knights, with helmets that obscure their faces.

The background is filled with indistinct shapes and lines contributing to the overall ominous atmosphere. The composition uses dynamic angles and intense contrasts between light and dark areas to convey a sense of chaos and intensity.

There's an element of surrealism or allegory in this work, as suggested by the combination of human figures and animals rendered in such a dramatic context, possibly hinting at themes related to power, struggle, or historical warfare. The image is heavily stylized with expressive lines and shading techniques that contribute significantly to its emotional impact.
