If anyone in #Toronto is looking for a sweet #cat boy in need of a new home, consider Marcelo! He is 2.5 year old. His current people are doing a long distance move and are unable to bring him with them.

I don’t know his current family, but can relay any questions you have to my friend who does.

Did you know that the Toronto Zoo used to run a monorail (ish)?

The 5.6km transit system closed down in 1994. However the concrete structure that supported the rail is still around in the middle of the forest near Scarborough/Rouge Park.

I knew it was reachable because of an old reddit post and also because we can see it from Google Maps.

But I didn't know "how" to get there. So with a few friends we decided to find out

They are free, no authentication needed, but also not documented anywhere.

Prompt: When was the first time you felt like Toronto was home?

Many firsts, each with a different definition of Toronto.

- First best friend in elementary school.
- First time I came back as an adult to experience the city. Never really ever went down town until then.
- Every time I moved back to the city and fall in love with this place again.
- Moving downtown and experiencing the real vibe of a walkable neighbourhood and accessible transit.
- Working on a municipal campaign to understand the full size and scale of this city (and all of its complexities and needs)
- Every time I make a new friend fall in love with this place too.

This is my home. I like Toronto.

Streetartwall. An impressive mural with a message has been painted on the outside wall of a flat house. The wall is divided into the colors light yellow (top) and purple (bottom) and shows the head of a dark-haired girl behind a wire fence. The fingers of her hand are clutching the wire. The head of an oversized gray bird is also pecking at the wire from the right, creating a hole in the fence. In the center above this hole is written in purple: "No one in the world is illegal" The mural was created by several artists in unusual painting styles. The girl is reminiscent of Art Nouveau ladies and the large bird is reminiscent of charcoal drawings from old zoology books. Beautiful.

Just finished a workshop using https://codeberg.org/nickmontfort/frag — a *very* short program to not only explain some about Markov chain generation, but also to allow people to use different documents for generation, try different parameters, and make modifications to the code.

It seems that people here in #Toronto (the GTA; actually Univ of Waterloo) at the #ELO25 conference had fun!

I spent a lot of time on a recent train trip from #Vancouver to #Toronto on railway sidings, waiting for a slow-moving freight train to pass.

In the US, Amtrak trains have legal precedence over freight trains.

That's not the case in #Canada, where VIA Rail plays second fiddle to Class One freights like CPKC.

Does it have to be this way? I take a look in the latest HIGH SPEED dispatch:

Sometimes you have to hold the trigger down on the camera and hope for the best. That's how I got this shot of the #butterfly flying in the air. I wasn't even looking through the view finder. This works .01% of the time.
