A black and white photograph of a small hill covered with tall trees, particularly white pines, standing out against a cloudy, white sky. Smaller trees and bushes are lower in front. In front of the hill stretches a field covered with very smooth, white snow.

Black and white photograph of a spruce forest in winter, with the ground covered in white snow. The bright sun is visible behind the trees and casts the shadows of the long, straight trunks onto the snow towards the front and bottom of the photo.

A black and white image of a curved mountain slope, covered in grass. In the shallow pit two objects compose the shot: a small cabin / Cottage and a coniferous tree standing somewhat apart on the meadow, but still forming a balanced pair in the composition. In the distance / upper part a wooden fence marks a hiking trail with some bushes on the side.

Useless Facts, Badly Drawn #524: The Tree of Ténéré.

The Tree of Ténéré was the loneliest, most isolated tree in the world. It was an acacia tree growing in an empty expanse of the Sahara desert, located 400 km away from the next nearest tree, and served as a navigational landmark for old caravan routes.
It was clearly marked even on large maps in the 1930s. It lived for 300 years until it was knocked down by a drunk truck driver in 1973.

#ThickTrunkTuesday straight out of John Carpenter's The Thing 😱

#Trees #Tree #Moss #Mosstodon #Hiking #NaturePhotography #PNW

an absolutely terrifying vertical view of a moss-shrouded tree (hemlock, as another user helpfully let me know!) with hundreds of limbs in out & around in a manner that implies wild & slithery motion, surrounded by more of the same, looking like a scene from Snow White's claustrophobic forest nightmare

During a big wind, the white oak leaves blow upside down revealing their white underside, making the entire tree appear to be covered in white leaves.

There is no fall quite so spectacular as New England fall (unless it's Canada, but since it's all parts of Canada that border New England I say that's cheating!). Captured by me one October on Maine's Mount Desert Island, a photograph I call "None Hallows' Day".
