Inside, the AQI is 8 (good), because we run air filters continuously and actively manage the air inside the house. We picked up this habit because of the COVID pandemic. The latter is ongoing, and wildfire smoke looks like it'll be a problem every summer for the foreseeable future, so here we are.

—
Uncertainty over funding and hiring stemming from the president’s executive orders has limited wildfire training and postponed work to reduce flammable vegetation. It has also led some firefighters to leave the force, their colleagues said.

Rural residents were upset when Oregon released a statewide map estimating property risk from wildfires.
Until then, the impacts of climate change were abstract to many people, one senator said. “This is a very big chicken coming home to roost.”

The fight against forest fires must adapt to climate change (European Union)
To better combat forest fires, the European Union must both focus on forest management and raise awareness of fire risks in the context of climate change, according to the European Commissioner for Crisis Management.
In an interview with Reuters, Hadja Lahbib also stressed the need for more financial resources in the context of the massive fires in France and Spain, which have led to the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of residents and tourists.
"Climate change is accelerating. Our response must therefore evolve just as rapidly. We must prepare for risks before disasters occur, and not simply react after the fact," she noted.
