2026年3月21日 评论 Remembered the Sunscreen, but Forgot the Bug Spray - I waited 6 months for this to finally get released on consoles only for the accompanying update to erase my save data for the base game. I suppose that’s not the biggest deal in the world, as I already long since acquired that platinum trophy and it didn’t prevent me from being able to jump straight into the new content here. Yet, I nonetheless can’t help but feel annoyed that I can no longer select whichever stage I want anymore without first going back through the entirety of that original campaign and would need to recollect all of the hidden “codex” entries I previously gathered as well. How the heck does this type of thing even still happen in 2026? Oh, they’re also charging a dollar more for this on PlayStation and Switch than PC for some reason… Yes, a frustrating lack of technical polish hangs over the entire experience, occasionally forcing checkpoint reloads because a critical door failed to unlock after clearing out a room or leaving you exasperatedly searching every pixel of a level because the completion screen says you missed grabbing a collectible poster that doesn’t actually exist. That’s a shame, because this is otherwise a really good DLC that I had quite a bit of fun with. It’s an extra dose of Brain Damaged’s solid, DOOM (2016) lite boomer shooter action that’s sporting some amusing additions to your arsenal, a few goofy new enemy types to fight, and a charming vacation theme that reminded me of Duke Caribbean: Life’s a Beach in the best of ways. Not to mention, the satire is surprisingly much more timely than that of the somewhat dated on arrival COVID and border wall jokes the main offering had to offer, allowing it to provide some welcome comedic catharsis in these troubled times. That is enough for me to be able to recommend These Sunny Daze, albeit nevertheless a tad cautiously, to the truly hardcore members of the Postal fanbase despite the faults. If simply because they are well aware at this point that launching in rough states like this is kind of just par for the course for the franchise. Plus, with the asking price only being a mere 8 bucks it’s easier to look past the bugs/glitches, brief segments of janky first-person platforming, and the fact that the whole thing can be breezed through in a couple of hours. So, if you think you can put up with those aforementioned shortcomings then this is worth the purchase. It’s more of one of the property’s better installments, and it’s hard to not appreciate that. 7/10

2026年2月28日 评论 Salvaging an Intriguingly Hellish Idea - More than just a simple restoration of the content that was cut in order to avoid the dreaded AO 18+ rating, this “ Unrated ” rerelease is actually a full Cyberpunk 2077: 2.0 Update style overhaul of Madmind Studios’ critically-panned 2018 debut title. I’m not going to lie and say every problem has been fixed here. Flaws remain in the form of enemy AI that ranges from unimpressive to downright clueless, horribly designed segments like the optional Baphomet boss fight, and the fact that you need to disconnect from your internet to keep the thing from crashing before you can ever even reach the gameplay. That being said, the wide variety of QoL improvements, which run the gamut from minor alterations to the level design to a complete reworking of the skill tree so that it actually provides you with meaningful upgrades, do elevate what was previously a notoriously busted mess into something that is entirely playable. You know, offline at least… By far the most significant changes are the ones that were made to the lighting alongside the addition of a mini-map. I remember the biggest grievance basically every reviewer had with vanilla Agony (outside of the plethora of bugs that appear to have all been squashed) was the frustration that arose from constantly getting lost in the overly dark, maze-like environments. Well, that issue has been totally resolved now thanks to those aforementioned fixes allowing players to both know and legitimately be able to see where they’re at in the nightmarish labyrinths, altogether making navigation much more palatable. The latter of the two even shows the locations of the hundreds of collectibles that can be used to unlock bonus goodies like artwork and a prequel comic from the main menu. Honestly, about the only major shortcoming that didn’t get addressed in some form or fashion is the frustrating lack of direction you’re given whenever the game expects you to do anything other than stealthily sneak your way through a stage, flip an inconveniently and unnecessarily well-hidden switch to shutdown traps blocking your path, or locate the correct sigil written on a wall somewhere that’s required to open up the way forward. For the most part, you’re never asked to do anything terribly elaborate in your time condemned to the fiery depths, but I tended to find myself pretty confused and needing to consult a guide the relatively few instances you are. That’s because there’s little indication that you’ll all of the sudden need to do certain stuff in order to progress—such as possess a flying fire devil and crash it into a very specific section of a massive ice wall, or carry a torch across a bunch of logs floating in a lake of blood and burn the bramble inside a cave on the other side with it to wound the unholy beast residing within. Things like that are why this unique survival-horror experience still won’t click with many even in this more refined state. At the end of the day and despite the devs’ best efforts, Agony Unrated is essentially a jankier, far less polished Amnesia: The Dark Descent with some creative ideas that don’t always live up to their full potential. Take the possession mechanic for example, which is a neat spin on a traditional lives system where you have a limited amount of time to take over the body of any nearby fellow tormented soul upon death (provided you’ve removed the bags covering their faces) before you’re kicked back to the last checkpoint. The attempt to expand upon it by granting players the option to also hijack demons later on in the story sadly falls short, as doing so ultimately proves disorienting rather than empowering due to how you’re stripped of all the tools that are essential for helping you figure out where to go next when running around as a vile abomination. Nevertheless, I personally found the gameplay competent enough to keep me engaged, if only to witness the full scope of Madmind’s UNFORGETTABLE depiction of Hell. Yes, the infernal landscapes you’ll traverse and the horrific sights contained therein are the real stars of the show. Let me be perfectly clear, this isn’t an experience for the faint of heart. Nearly every direction you turn there’s an incredibly graphic portrayal of torture, suffering, or some other type of obscenity that, while never outright scary , did leave me repulsed and disturbed in a way nothing else in the medium outside of the first Postal has to date. Well, nothing that isn’t straight pornography, that is… Despite the extremely explicit displays of shocking, grotesque imagery that will undoubtedly carry an appeal to people who are sick in the head for all the wrong reasons, I think merely labeling the game as “edgy” in the manner so many have is plainly reductive. I never felt that it was attempting to be provocative solely for the sake of being provocative. Each moment no matter the degree in which it pushed the boundaries of good taste came off to me as having been placed there with genuine artistic intent, and as thematically appropriate given the subject matter. Of course, it certainly helps that a lot of the previously censored material that was returned here makes the overall vision and narrative markedly clearer and easier to understand than they previously were. Consequently, I can recommend this to those who have strong stomachs and can tolerate a hearty dose of eurojank. It may not exactly be enjoyable in the traditional sense, yet I can’t help but seriously appreciate the package’s now uncompromised imagination, originality, and plot which features an interesting expansion on a character and tale from Judeo-Christian lore. There’s also a ton of replay value thanks to the multiple different endings, secrets that only become available on subsequent playthroughs, a randomized roguelike challenge mode, and a shorter secondary “Succubus” campaign that introduces its own mechanics and cutscenes. While the general critical reception likely still wouldn’t have been great, I can’t help but wonder if things would have turned out differently for the team at Madmind Studio had this been the version of Agony they originally released. As of this writing, the controversial Polish company is currently on its last leg. They essentially started off 2026 with the announcement that they would no longer be developing their own projects, their CEO had jumped ship, they’ve reduced their workforce to a mere two employees, and would be attempting to shift exclusively into the role of a publisher for outside talent (source) . All signs they probably won’t be around for too much longer, and stuff that naturally makes for a strange, almost bittersweet feeling to have finally tried (and dare I say, LIKED) one of their works in the very same year those revelations were brought to light. Regardless, as someone who’s had fun digging through the catalogues of similarly unhinged creatives such as Running with Scissors, I look forward to checking out the rest of the entries in the interconnected “World of Agony” as my introduction to it, albeit highly imperfect, wasn’t terrible and has me curious to discover the rest of the transgressive routes it explored. 7/10

2026年2月23日 评论 Slow and Flawed, but Nonetheless Intriguing - While the story is a fictitious spin on history things never descend into full-on fantasy. A lot of work went into making everything feel as authentic and period appropriate as possible. It also takes itself very seriously. The natural horrors of the situation take precedent over the supernatural ones. So, we're largely watching the characters minds break and the terrible things they'll do to survive with the monster attacks only occasionally being thrown in. While this emphasis on human drama and desperation make it an easy show to respect, it doesn't always make it exciting to watch. The slow pacing was at times a real hinderance to my enjoyment. There are entire episodes where all that happens are conversations. Which is great at maturely portraying the gradual degradation of the crew's sanity and morals, but not so much at maintaining the attention of those watching. If you have the patience though this genuinely a good show. Thoughtful and horrific with some decent creature-feature action thrown in for good measure. I just wished there was some more going on at times.

2026年2月27日 评论 Lacks the Punch of its Source Material, but a Trashy Good Time Nonetheless - I hoped it would be more of a skewering of today's superhero obsessed culture, but I ultimately still enjoyed The Boys for its blood soaked, foul-mouthed anarchy in a time where our masked vigilantes have to remain squeaky clean to ensure box-office domination. There are some shots taken at how mass marketed the superhero genre has become, but I would have appreciated just a bit more on this front. The underrated Karl Urban is of course fantastic as always. Really carrying the show here as a lot of the side-characters aren't given too much to do (a flaw in the comics as well). The plot and world-building are interesting, and I remained glued to the screen across each of the 8 episodes, but admittedly there isn't much depth to any of this. Overall, The Boys isn't quite the next big superhero takeover or even the slayers of this ever-growing pop culture juggernaut cycle we're on. What it is however if a vulgar, hyper-violent look at what it could be like if superheroes actually existed and got as big as their onscreen counterparts. 7/10

2026年2月4日 评论 Not Quite Concord 2 - As someone who doesn’t watch The Game Awards, my reaction upon finding out about Highguard wasn’t outrage over Geoff Keighley awarding it the apparently illustrious position of being the final reveal of the night. Rather, it was sheer bewilderment over what the heck I was even looking at. A medieval fantasy multiplayer title where you shoot machine guns while riding horses you magically summon out of thin air?! Color me intrigued I guess. I’m typically the type of guy who likes to jump on any notable F2P shooters when they release anyways, but this one had me particularly interested due to how odd it seemed. What I’ve ultimately found after about a week of play is a fairly flawed experience that, despite often feeling like a mashup of every modern live-service trend, nonetheless does have something to offer for the right crowd. Initial impressions can actually distract from how original and creative the title actually is, as it appears at first to just be trying to check every little online game box to ensure it builds an audience. You’ve got the gunplay of Apex Legends, searching for loot at the start of a match like in a battle royale, and hero shooter elements akin to Overwatch. Luckily, this was reportedly made by longtime industry veterans who previously worked at places such as Respawn Entertainment, so this isn’t merely a sad compilation of a bunch of other people’s homework. The team at Wildlight manages to bring all of these aspects together into a rather distinct package by centering them around their unique idea of forcing players to try and destroy the opposing team’s base in order to win. It’s an intriguing hook that can lead to thrilling, back-and-forth tug-of-war battles as both sides race to secure the “Shieldbreaker,” which will allow them to breach the opposition’s fortress. At which point they have a limited number of lives to plant bombs on generators to whittle the enemy stronghold’s health down before the round ends. Victories are immensely satisfying. I do wish the majority of my matches hadn’t ended in one party completely steamrolling the other, teamwork is a must so you’ll want to bring a few friends along for the best results, but I have had quite a bit of fun regardless. That’s not to say there aren’t some pretty serious shortcomings that show the hate directed at Highguard isn’t solely due to how fed up the average internet user is with the whole live-service concept in general. It is shockingly light on content, currently only sporting 3v3 and (just recently added as of this writing) 5v5 options for its single “Raid” mode. The progression is also frustratingly slow thanks to how meager the rewards for completing challenges are. It’s most damning flaw, though? Despite its eye-catchingly bizarre theme, the game is unexpectedly lacking in personality. The world is bland and if there’s any lore I completely missed it. Meanwhile the cast of playable characters are totally generic and forgettable, with exception to Scarlet who stands out solely for being unusually sexy for something trying to go for the largest possible demographic like this and isn’t named Marvel Rivals . As serious as those issues are however, what I think this really has going against it is simply that the market its makers are attempting to break into has basically already been cornered, and their admirable, decently compelling, and competently entertaining foray here isn’t enough to pull players away from the juggernaut mainstays. That’s ultimately why I’ve decided to walk away. Well, that and a total lack of desire to ever dedicate myself to a “forever game.” That being said, should it manage to survive the current wave of overwhelming negativity and scrutiny it’s fallen under, I would be open to revisiting it somewhere later on down the line to see what’s become of it. I believe it has a lot of genuine potential and would love to see it grow. Consequently, I do recommend others give it a shot since it’s free and therefore they have nothing to lose. As unlikely as it is to blow anyone’s mind, I felt it was enjoyable enough in the time I spent with it to be a perfectly acceptable choice for those looking for a solid means of scratching their competitive multiplayer itch.

2025年10月27日 评论 a review of - After two outings inexplicably devoid of any trace of humor despite their ridiculous concepts, this third chapter in the Twisted Childhood Universe actually manages to justify being so freaking grimdark with its subject matter. Anything dealing with the abduction of children in this manner should absolutely be this creepy and uncomfortable to watch. The overall tone mixed with a few moments of genuinely shocking depravity and some of the most brutal violence this side of the Terrifier  franchise makes for some surprisingly solid horror. Altogether creating the first installment in this baffling and still unfolding cinematic universe that I legitimately kind of like.  It won’t work for everyone. Like its predecessors, many will find this to be little more than “edginess” for the sake of “edginess” thanks to it continuing the unrelenting bleakness and nastiness of its predecessors. You can also clearly see the areas where it’s outright borrowing from bigger genre hits such as Andy Muschietti’s  IT  movies, among others. If they were going to ape anything though, at least they’re aping the best where it counts and while not skipping out on including their own original bits to give the project an identity of its own. Plus, the whole thing is executed FAR better than the two Blood and Honey  flicks prior (the acting is unexpectedly quite good). Establishing that Scott Chambers is currently the best thing to happen to this growing collection of gruesome reimaginings of beloved children’s properties that have hit the public domain, outside of this entry itself, and for more than just his role as Christopher Robin in the film’s 2024 sibling. I’m honestly a little impressed here.

Yeah, the entire hook here really is only “horror flick, but the pup is the lead.” They are able to get a surprising amount of mileage out of the concept though. I wouldn’t exactly call this scary (more creepy than anything), yet there are a handful of good thrills and a little bit of emotion to carry you through. I especially loved the short segment after the credits where the director discusses how they were able to pull the whole thing off. If you’re at all curious about that then grab a ticket, because it sounds like something you won’t get to see unless you go to the theater.  Overall, I would recommend this to those intrigued by the premise as it’s very well executed. Not one of the next greats of the genre by any means, but a solid matinee trip to the cinema nonetheless.

2024年10月4日 评论 a review of 撒冷镇 - After a few years of remaining in the sort of awkward limbo with its fate up in the air and the only real updates we ever received being the news of another delay, WB finally deciding to rather quietly release this directly to their Max streaming service doesn’t exactly speak highly of its quality. Yet, while it’s easy to see why they would opt to go this route as opposed to risking what would have likely been failure at the box office, I’m pleasantly surprised to say that 2024’s spin on the vampiric Stephen King classic is far more entertaining than it has any right to be. Just don’t go into it looking for a great, deep adaptation of the novel’s story. Gary Dauberman brings the same kind of goofy haunted house attraction style thrills seen in his directorial debut Annabelle Comes Home. None of its scare attempts are actually frightening, but are fun to shout and howl at the screen with alongside the hammier elements such as the jokes and Pilou Asbæk’s ridiculous performance that’s totally played for chuckles. The plot meanwhile is largely underdeveloped, hitting only general outline of the tale found in its source material. The villains go unexplored, entire side-characters/subplots are missing, and the backstories and motivations of the protagonists were clearly left on the cutting room floor. Even the entire aspect of a small American town being rendered desolate by an unholy force doesn’t hit like it should have due to the runtime rushing through everything to reach the next big set piece.  This will lead to a very hollow viewing experience for those who were hoping for a modern update that would’ve done the book’s narrative true justice or simply demand more from their cinema overall. If you’re merely looking for a solid bit of schlock horror this Spooktober though, this will certainly deliver the amusement you’re looking for in spades. It holds up well as a fun throwaway watch for the season that also provides some shockingly pleasant visuals in the form of smoky environments, glowing-eyed bloodsuckers, and the occasional colorful backdrop. Sometimes that’s all you need when you’re in or are trying to get into the Halloween spirit.

2024年4月2日 评论 a review of 新威龙杀阵 - Every scene with Conor is a 10/10. Every one without him is… Poorly acted, filled with awkward supporting characters, occasionally pushing an underdeveloped romance between actors completely devoid of chemistry, and strung together by a somewhat dull “mystery.” When it’s adrenaline is pumping and the blows are being traded though it’s a blast. The Borne Identity  director knows a good action scene, and hey the whole thing is sporadically funny. Don’t know how this compares to the original, but it did get me interested in checking it out to see. So all in all I’d say this is a good time. Oh, and can we get McGregor in more movies please? Screw the UFC, this  is his true calling.
