在奎疯子眼里，花生是他的“图腾”。有人偷了九亩半的花生，急得他满街乱转。他发现，不止一人拿着花生去路老鹤家……
人见人怕的奎疯子，却对路小芬言听计从。整日像个孩子跟在小芬身后走动。
这晚，队部秘密开会，整出一份分地计划。不想，计划还没捂热乎就被杨志刚连夜从抽屉里偷了出来，公布于众。王支书被打了个措手不及。
奎疯子和霸占了十年的“九亩半”成了“分地”的焦点。
“唱戏”“分地”交织中，牵出一段历史悲剧。
电影《村戏》剧本改编自《贾大山小说精品集》中的前半部“梦庄生态”部分，主要是《村戏》、《花生》和《老路》等三篇。

Liu returns to his native city Shanghai after 50 years spent in Taiwan. He has come to find the first love of his life, Qiao, who he left behind pregnant. In the meantime, Qiao has married and formed a family. But Liu is determined to get the family's approval to take her away with him.

A woman married to the brutal and infertile owner of a dye mill in rural China conceives a boy with her husband's nephew but is forced to raise her son as her husband's heir without revealing his parentage in this circular tragedy. Filmed in glowing technicolour, this tale of romantic and familial love in the face of unbreakable tradition is more universal than its setting.

Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke returns to the shooting locations of his films, along with his actors, friends and close collaborators. Jia recalls the inspiration sources for his movies, such as Platform, Still Life and A Touch of Sin. Wang Kangmei (Fan Wei) is a good-humored working stuff who after four decades as an engineer for the Chinese railway has taken early retirement. Wang's timing was less than ideal, as his wife (Cheng Shubo) falls ill and ends up in the hospital shortly after Wang's leaves his job. But Wang is a cheerful and quietly patriotic man who believes that the government will do the right thing for him and that he'll be able to find work if he tries. Wang's father (Cheng Shubo) isn't so confident, but that doesn't stop Wang from spending the day pursuing various sorts of employment, from operating a bicycle-cab to auditioning for an opera company.
