God Mazinger, also known as Majin Densetsu is an anime, manga and novel series created by manga artist Go Nagai. The anime aired on Japanese TV from April 15, 1984 to September 30, 1984 in the network Nippon Television with 23 episodes.

In the series a young sports enthusiast, Yamato Hino hears voices calling out to him and during a thunderstorm, and he is brought to a parallel world. This world is the Kingdom Mu, under attack by the evil Dorado of the Empire of Dinosaurs. Yamato was summoned from the prayers of queen Aila Mu to pilot a statue known as the God Mazinger. Joining the Mu army's ranks, Yamato fights against Dorado and his army.

番組中盤には既にOVAの企画があったが、この時はローラにスポットを当てた番外編的な内容になる予定だった。しかし、打ち切りが決定すると「ムゲとの決戦を無理に放送枠内に詰め込むのではなく、後からじっくり描こう」という案が浮上。TV版の最終話はダンクーガがムゲの宇宙に突入するところで終了し、その続きがOVAとして作られた。
総集編と新規に制作されたムゲとの決戦で構成されており、総集編パートは一部の台詞が変更されている。また、必殺武器「断空剣」が初登場した。獣戦機隊の物語は、ここで一度終了する。 なお、クレジットには原画でしか表示されていないが、新規パートのメカ作画監督は大張正巳が担当している。（BD-BOX01の本人のインタビューの発言）。そのインタビューにて、ザンガイオーの他に、断空剣、ムゲ魔宮、ムゲの霊波砲のデザインをしたと語っている。
また、ザンガイオーの名付け親も大張で、当初は「ダンガイオー」を考えており、その名前は後にバンダイビジュアルから出たOVAで日の目を見ることになる。
断空剣の他に対になるシールドもデザインされたが、本編で使うことはなかった。
メカ以外のムゲ側の作画監督は羽原信義が担当した。

Alien invaders take over Great Mazinger who is at the entrance of a museum next to Mazinger Z as symbols of peace. Grendizer fights the evil invaders and Great Mazinger is recovered. When the Vegan empire dispatches a new general to oversee the takeover of Earth, he quickly manages to capture Koji Kabuto and, learning of Great Mazinger through interrogation, quickly commandeers it from a museum where it was kept as a symbol of peace. It is now up to Duke Fleed aboard Grendizer to stop humanity's former defender from becoming its destroyer.

Mazinger Z, known briefly as Tranzor Z in the United States, is a Japanese super robot manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai. The first manga version was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from October 1972 to August 1973, and it later continued in Kodansha TV Magazine from October 1973 to September 1974. It was adapted into an anime television series which aired on Fuji TV from December 1972 to September 1974. A second manga series was released alongside the TV show, this one drawn by Gosaku Ota, which started and ended almost at the same time of the TV show. Mazinger Z has spawned several sequels and spinoff series, among them UFO Robot Grendizer and Mazinkaiser. It was a very popular cartoon in Mexico during the 1980s, where it was dubbed into Spanish directly from the Japanese version, keeping the Japanese character names and broadcasting all 92 episodes, unlike the version aired in the U.S.

《史上最强弟子兼一》自从06年TV动画化之后，再次传出将制作OVA动画的消息，OVA动画将捆绑漫画第46卷单行本在2012年的3月16日发售，也就是采用了今年比较流行的OAD模式。OVA的剧情将紧接着TV动画完结时的剧情，而且OVA的剧本将由原作者的松江名俊亲自负责。
此次OVA的制作阵容有别于06年TV版的阵容，动画制作公司为Brain's Base，自然制作人员也全部换成了Brain's Base的下属员工。女主角风林寺美羽的声优原本为川上友子小姐，可以遗憾的是川上友子小姐去年因癌症离开了人世，此次OVA动画中将由傲娇女王钉宫理惠来顶替川上友子小姐来担任风林寺美羽的声优，其他人的声优没有变化。另外OVA动画新登场的角色将由绿川光、小清水亚美、浪川大辅等知名声优担任，声优阵容更加华丽。
