A story of #Kate editor from #KDE:
Moving a file by *renaming* (e.g. from blah.txt to subfolder/blah.txt) spares the time it takes to close the file in the editor, then manually move it, then reopen in the editor.
However Kate's document selector recently (april 2026) forgot what a POSIX path is and seems to believe that ".." is a valid folder name, and happily renders two impossible parent folders 🤡

is it just me being unable to use assistive technology, or is android #kde #kdeConnect just inaccessible for keyboard + google talkback usage?

Just curious, does anybody use #KDE #Kmail?
I'm just toying around with the idea of switching my work machine from Debian to KDE Neon to get super-up-to-date KDE programs, and I wonder how usable KMail would be as an alternative to #Thunderbird (which I still really like).
Google claim that their upcoming laptop is the "perfect partner to your Android phone" because you can "access files from your phone as if they live on your laptop" - but did you know that this is already possible, no special laptop model needed?
KDE Connect is completely free and open source software (FOSS) to link your devices together, supported by the @kde charity. It works on almost all phone models, and it does more than just allow you to access your phone's storage. For example, with KDE Connect your phone immediately becomes a remote control for music or videos playing on your laptop or desktop PC!
Don't get drawn in by the slick marketing - you don't need AI to make your life easier with technology, and most of the features large software companies such as Google are promoting have already been thoughtfully implemented by dedicated volunteers in the FOSS community.
Something I miss from #Tiling wms/compositors like #i3wm and #sway when I'm on #KDE:
I use #Yakuake on KDE #Plasma to have a terminal that's easily accessible, but stays out of my way when I don't want to see it.
On tiling setups, I use disappearing windows (I forget the actual name of the feature) that will pop up when I hit super+-, appear one at a time, and then disappear.
Yakuake lets you do tiling as well within its window, but I kinda miss the ability to cycle through a bunch of windows very easily. I mean, I've got the keyboard shortcuts set up very nicely, so it's just F12 to make the window appear and disappear, and then control+tab to cycle through tabs or control+pgup/pgdown to jump between panes, but somehow the tiling setup is just a bit easier to do. Less thinking, just super+-. ;)
I don't know if I'll continue to use tiling setup too much longer, though. It's too aggravating to figure out how to get the occasional gnome program to work properly. There's always some kind of fancy library initialization that I fail to get right. It's easier to just use a DE and whittle it down to nearly tiling levels of productivity.

hey #fediverse people using #mastodon on underpowered machines, what is your client of choice?
I'm on a #SurfaceGo with a Pentium Gold running #Fedora with #KDE and think that maybe someone here has a recommendation for something more lightweight than the default web client.
Non-systemd operating systems like the BSDs, Devuan, etc...
Do we think there will be some kind of work around in place for Gnome 50?
Has KDE articulated a plan either in favour or not for systemd-only in the future similarly to Gnome?
Xfce stated a direction?
I'm going to guess that Cosmic will always be only systemd.
