Rainbow linoprint on paper, hand carved with love 🌈
I was not expecting the rainbow to turn out so good on my first try!
Today is #Kalevala day.
As such, I thought it would share my Kalevala-themed #linocut prints from 2020.
There's the swan of Tuonela, who swims on the black river, which is the gateway to the world of the dead.
There's Otso, the bear king of the forest.
And there's Ikiturso, a mythological sea monster.

"An Aztec stamp in ceramic representing a spi‑
der monkey dated 14th‑ early‑ 16th century. In Nahuatl, the mon‑
key is called ozomatli and is the eleventh‑day sign of the ancient
Aztec calendar."
This should be made into a #linocut.

LA MUETTE DE PORTICI
The 2024/25 season is slowly coming to an end, and our last performance of « Muette » is just around the corner. I would like to share this beautiful illustration of Mount Vesuvius erupting, taken from the back of the toi-toi-toi cards that my husband made for the premiere in April.

Happy birthday Rosalind Franklin (1920 – 1958), #chemist & x-ray #crystallographer whose x-ray diffraction images were instrumental to discovering double-helix structure of #DNA, made important contributions to #carbon & #virus research, was 1 of the great scientists of the 20th century.
Watson’s bio lead some to (inaccurately) joke, “What did Watson and Crick discover?” “Rosalind Franklin’s notes.” 🧵

a 5x7" linocut block, carved into Carolina wrens and dogwoods.
I miss these buggers nesting in literally anything. You left your boots outside for 24 hours? two nests. Newspaper mailbox? nest.

Happy birthday to French mathematician, physicist and philosopher Marie-Sophie Germain (1776 – 1831), known as Sophie. She taught herself mathematics using books in her father’s library and by corresponding with leading mathematicians of her day, including Lagrange, Legendre and Gauss, initially using the pseudonym Monsieur LeBlanc. Her work on elasticity theory won her the grand prize from the Paris Academy of Sciences. 🧵
